Question for you guys. Who makes a slightly larger butt diameter cue? I know BS does but no way will I spend that much money. I saw a Jensen a few days ago, which I liked but the shafts were to skinny.

The basic I'm looking for is 19oz Hoppe Style, leather, maybe linen, at least 13 mm shafts, strong taper with Ivory joint.

Please no hyped up, hits like a cannon or a ton etc. I've played way to many years for that. I'm not a cue collector, just looking for a close match. Who knows, maybe a trade. Tell me what you have or tell me who makes a stock cue with a slightly larger butt. It's appreciated.

I like big butts and I can not lie. LOL

I would have to say any country cafe in the south, GA or Alabama. I have seen plenty of butts roughly the size of an Axe Handle....

I don't know who makes them normally, but I do know that most true custom builders will make a cue to your specs, (within reason) It has to fit the lathe.

Scruggs and Jensen both make the "older" style butts and both play well in my opinion. I have never hit an ivory joint from either of them, however. Prices for either are still pretty reasonable right now.
 
Well, you can check with Pathman...he had an ivory joint Hoppe style Jensen (with big butt) for sale earlier this week. The price sure was good too. I'm not sure if it's still available.

I got a new cue from Jensen this week and I'll say so far it's great and Mike J. was great to work with. And his shafts definitely have a strong taper, esp. in the joint area.
 
I have heard that Hercek makes fatter butts.

I always thought that McDermotts had fat butts. They feel like a club to me.
 
i think alot of cuemakers will make you any sized butt within reason. Ive been trying out different things lately, i found a house cue at my local pool room i really liked the feel of, took it home and measured it and the butt was huge, i cant recall the exact figures but i want to say an average butt is like 1.25 near the back where the wrap is, this thing was like 1.36 (inches). So i measured the cue like for the last foot and 1/2 with my calipers, got my figures, called schmelke and he made me a 4 point metal jointed sneaky that exactly matched and it was pretty cheap price wise. Im on the list for a hercek,ive been tryin to narrow down exactly what i like in a cue and this was a good cheap way to try it out. If i was you id find a cue that felt like exactly what you like and just measure it.
 
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm searching for a direction which is why I asked about the larger butt. I realize a cue maker can make any size but I thought I'd get a better direction and possibly find one for sale here. How can I say this? If I know their regular production (not a production cue though) is slightly larger then I could get measurements.

I play with an older Schon, it plays great however the butt is a tad small. I replaced the linnen with leather hoping that would be the answer but it isn't. My hands are fairly small but I still prefer a slightly larger butt.

In the end I may have to order to get exactly what I want. Just thought I'd try this route first. Yes Pathman's cue is very nice and fairly close.

I haven't owned many cues, but the McDermott I had was a larger diameter butt than the others I've had, including my current Schon.
 
Johson Hoppe Ivory Joint

I can speak for Jensen - I have a titlist conversion from him. Butt is fatt and it hits really good (caveat - it is a full splice - I have not hit one of his half spliced cues). Out of all the tapers I have from my 20 other cues (all the big guys like Scruggs, Stroud etc...) I like Mike Johnsons taper best. Just my 2 cents.

Steve Kornele out of Ok. has made cues with larger butt, as he learned from Verl Horn. He may still have access to some or would surely make one for you. He currrently has a cue on ebay and can be found easily. I have one of his recent cues that has a smaller butt diameter and the work is excellent, especially for the price. In talking with him, he will make what you want, and the price will be reasonable.
