Butt Diameter

I ordered my Schmelke with a 1" butt diameter and it is probably too small and too lite.
I've added a thin rubber wrap which makes it perfect for me.

Thanks guys for all the responses, both serious and light-hearted lol.

Measuring at the near end of my current Frey it comes in at 1.24, but I agree that the taper of the butt is the real difference. In the actual handle there are some spots where it goes down to 1.09 - 1.14 or so. Feels amazing.

In contrast I thought the old P2's were supposed to be thin but mine measured at the end at around 1.27 with corresponding thicker areas in the handle. Crazy that such a small difference really changes the feel of the cue.

That's fat.

Joey, do you mean Fat, as in Phat, or Fat, as in Fat? Have to be specific sometimes.

I have a MeDermott cue of the Month, July 07. It felt like I was holding a telephone pole, or that I was going to the bathroom, kinda.

Anyway, I sold it and bought it back. Way too thick and Butt heavy for me.

The only reason that I bought it back is because it is so beautiful.

It really is a pretty cue. I got a decent deal on EBay many Moons ago so not out much.

Maybe some day, can have a custom made in the same fashion, only to my specs.

1.270 is fat to me.
Worse, the differential per inch is too much for me.
1.250 'is plenty if you know to taper right.

The butt on my old A. E. Schmidt Titlist conversion is HUGE.

I haven't measured it, but it has to be way over 1.3 something. When I try to put it in one of my "normal" cases, it won't even go past half the wrap area before it gets stuck.

The butt sleeve is so big and red, it reminds me of the tail lights on some of those 1950s cars.

That is the trick getting the taper right. But what is right? For me measured at the front &
rear of the wrap is about 1.060 to 1.190. Many cue makers will not change their taper. Some may be gradual but the wrong size and some are like a wedge. lol To the original poster when you find one you like its probably best to stick with that maker. Then hope they do not change their mixture.
