butt rattles at joint

Viking cue is relatively new but for some reason has a rattle at the joint. Without the stick being put together if you hold the thick part of the butt about 2 inches above the table and then drop the joint you hear a rattle. I can assure you it's not the weight.

Send it to Viking or a Cue Mechanic!

Sounds like you've done this. Can you give me an idea of how to do it please?
First, if it's newish....send it back to Viking as Mike Webb said. Otherwise, to replace a joint pin (on the assumption it's the issue) should be done by a competent repair guy. Removing the pin can damage the collar and finish if not done right. Plus, once you TRY to remove it, the pin is trash whether you get it out or not, and the warrantee is trash also. Once the pin is removed, then a tap is needed to clean the threads in the hole and install a new pin, properly, all while maintaining accurate centering of the pin. All this being based on the Assumption that its the pin.
Does the cue have a Stainless steel collar? If so, give it a twist to unscrew it, if it moves....there's your problem. Could also be a buzzing 'A' joint, loose buttcap, loose weight bolt, and have even seen a loose bumper cause a buzz

Sounds complicated :)

One of the hardest things in repairing Cues is Trying to imagine what happened to the Cue.
Following behind someone with NO EXPERIENCE trying to repair it,
Multiply what was wrong by what is wrong now.

To Mr. Harrison
Please give us some info that you have a lathe and some basic knowledge?

Wondering if the joint screw and the collar are all one piece. It would make sense and easier but from what people have said they are 2 separate pieces and to answer another question, working with a lathe and wood is not on my resume.

Save yourself some trouble. Send it back to Viking.

I came across a cue last weekend, it rattled at the joint. I was so certain that is where the noise was coming from. But yes the sound was from the handle joint, but the actual failure was a split in the very bottom of the handle, with the sound being emanated at the joint. It was totally silent at the bottom of the handle. So another new lesson learnt to me.

Worth a call if it was not tampered with. Would send it to them unless you want it back faster.

Viking cues are warranted to be free from material and manufacturing defects. Viking Cues, LLC warrants against warpage and all components of the cue for the life of the product, but excludes replaceable parts such as the tip, ferrule, finish, wrap, and

Sounds like the pin is loose. Probably not enough Epoxy on install. If it's a new cue I would send it to Viking and probably get it under warranty.
