Buying a Gold Crown I - Good Price (hopefully)

I hate to keep doing this, but I do not have a lot of experience buying table (especially nicer tables) and I want to make sure I am getting as good a deal as possible, well I guess more importantly, I don't want to get ripped off. I am in the final stages of purchasing a 9 foot, Gold Crown with a ball return that has been refurbished (refinished rails, new cushions, new pockets, new corner castings, stripped body that has been repainted, new Simonis cloth). The table will come with with two house cues, a set of aramith balls, and a rack. The mechanic is delivering it from about 100 miles away. And will be responsible for setting the table up. All of this will come to a grand total of $2500. I have been searching for about three months for a table. I have been close a couple of times, but either the deal fell through, the table was too far away, or I lost touch with the seller. It has been a frustrating endeavor and I have become obsesses with buying the right table. I want to make sure my obsession is not clouding my judgement. That's what I am relying on you guys for. What do you think of the table? What about the price? Thanks, in advance, for the help.

With what you describe, it sounds like a very fair deal. Nice table, enjoy!

I bought a GC1 two years ago now for $1500, but it was original, not refreshed, and I had to first go get it myself, then pay $500 to have it setup and covered. $2500 is a fair price for all that you're getting, and it will play great! You can probably get a GC3 for 2500, but then you'll have to expend the effort to pick it up, and then spend another $500 for set up and cloth. You have a good deal. Enjoy!!! :thumbup2:
Below is a picture of mine.

Might be a good price, I have less than that in mine but I got a ton of time in mine. I moved it, stripped it, refinished it did not redo the castings probably have just under 2K in it. I love the way mine plays. I have Simonis 860 cloth and would reccomend that, also I wanted new rubber and the guy who did my table said the rubber it had GCII is better than a lot of new rubber so we did not switch that out.

I say go for it if you want a good table.

You have been searching for 3 months. You find a table that you like and it is $2500. You don't want to be ripped off. By this time you should know what tables are going for, you should know what $2500 will get you. How much are you concerned with being ripped off. The most you can lose is $2500. Many of us have paid more than that for a cue.

Sounds like a good deal, especially if it was restored to original condition. IMO they lose value when people change the table colors or corner casting colors. Do you have any pics?? Mr. Hoppes is about perfect...all white with blue cloth.

Looks like the legs don't match the apron? Yes? No?

Paul Mon.........got GCIII (1 year old) with minor scratches set up with 1 yr old Simonis, Centenial Balls, rack and two bridges for $2500 in 1998. I though I did real good.

Pictures at: because I don't know how to post them.

Sounds like a great deal with all that has been done to it. I have bought and sold many Gold Crowns, and personally believe the GC I to be the best playing GC for the money.Enjoy, and PM me if you have any problems getting your table,I have some GC I's and Anniversaries that are in great shape.

the table is in my wifes dog grooming shop. So i had to make barriers to keep the bottom clean.

Gratz man!!

It pays to take your time regarding these matters. I went through a similar frustrating pool table hunt of my own a while back. I would not settle until I found the perfect table for me, which turned out to be a GCIII for $800, moved it myself (not fun), and have about $500 into it with setup, felt, balls and what not. I couldnt be happier with it though, I play everyday. Eventually I want to get it diamondized with new extended rails and all that jass - right now I have it double shimmed and it plays tough, i think a little too tough from some angles actually. It likes to spit balls out that dont even catch a rail coming in if you hit them too hard. But it definately will keep you honest.
