Tomorrow I leave for California and will be in Boulder Creek until June 17th.
I hear that there is a Sunday tournament somewhere nearby in Mountain Ash or something like that. Do any AZ ers go there or anywhere else within an hour's drive? I would love to meet you.

From Boulder Creek you have several choices within an hour.

California Billiards in Mountain View
Edgies in Milpitas
Fast Eddy's in Capitola

There are several others but the one's listed are the best, IMO.

Btw, good to see you posting again, nfty9er!

Doug,

WTF are you doing in Boulder Creek? You must be at some retreat...hot springs and the like. That's up in the mountains above Santa Cruz. It's beautiful country up there. Have fun buddy!

No Jay. I am not in denial. My son in law moved there to work in Silicon Valley a few years ago and my granson graduates there next Friday.
So I am growing a Mountain Man beard for my stay there and practicing my Duelling Banjo/ Deliverance persona.
It is a shame it is just a bit too far from you or we could have got together.

I hope to hit a few balls and get in some one handed practice before I go off to Qatar at the end of the month.

If you don't mind driving a little further north (about 45 minutes) to San Francisco, there is also Family Billiards on Geary St. Best room action in SF dtown if you feel like working out. Fav games are 9-ball and 1-hole. Handicapped tournaments are held every Monday & Thursday and open 1-pocket and 9B on the 3rd weekend (Sat. 1P, Sun. 9B) of the month Also, on June 20-22, the Summer Shootout will be held in California Billiards in Mt. View. Good place to be as many of the SF Bay Area's and some of California's best shooters would descend to play either the tournament or in action.

One handed practice? (I hope that's for pool) :D Sheesh. Is there nothing that you can't do? :)

I was once the Santa Cruz Eight Ball champion. I was visiting my kids up there many years ago, and my ex noticed a pool tournament listed in the local throw away newspaper. Eight Ball, $35 entry and $500 added, 32 players max. I got in with zero practice and won the tournament.

First prize was $500, and the owner of the poolroom didn't want to pay me. I think he posts here from time to time and owns another room in that area now. A very fine fellow! :D
I DID get paid though. I wasn't leaving without the cheese. I won it fair and square.

You MUST be talking about the Brookdale Lodge. I went there for dinner recently and it was real good. A warning if you go there - It is haunted!!
There are numerous stories of diners abruptly leaving their meal after seeing the ghost of the little girl. Here's a link - http://www.hauntedbay.com/features/BrookdaleLodge.shtml

Well it is not me

I am only responding because your post infers a room owner in this area might not be honest or shady. Since I am the only poo room owner in the area and am neither dishonest or shady you need to be corrected. A loooooong time ago there was a pool room in Santa Cruz not owned by me. They went out of business, maybe cause they were shady. So I am the only one that posts on this forum and am not the person you are talking about. I have owned my room for 28 years and not like some people I know have never cheated anyone in my life. I am the only poster on here that owns a room and only one at that. We in Santa Cruz have no clue who you are talking about. They say memory is the 2nd thing to go? Since a lot of people know me and that I post here I would apprenciate it if you correct your post with correct information.

LOL
No Joey, my friend. I THINK that there is nothing that I cannot do. But that doesn't necessarily man that I CAN do anything.

Parking Places and such.

Yesterday, I was going into the French Quarter to visit a customer where parking is extremely limited and I thought of you and summoned all of my inner powers and expected a parking place to appear. Within a couple of minutes, a legal spot appeared for me, directly in front of my customer's business. I celebrated acquiring the parking spot by yelling "DOUG GORDON" and the tourists twisted their heads, grinned broadly and gave me a couple of long distance high-fives, almost as if they knew who you were. :D

You must know who I'm talking about. This was back in the early 80's. I forget the name of the room. Maybe Fast Eddy's or something like that. I didn't mean to imply that it was you. I thought the guy later owned another room in Santa Cruz. I believe you are in a neighboring town. Maybe Capitola?

Bottom line, after the tournament he stalled around for more than an hour telling me he had the money in his office, and would get it "soon". I finally told him "Let's go to your office NOW!"

Joey - C'est La Vie, Mon Ami. It's a lot more convenient to use your mind rather than your feet or your gas. Keep it up and you will get 100% success - 95% as you are from voodoo child country.

This is strange

Do not want to beat a dead horse to death but your memory is not quite right on this one. First of all in the early 80's there was only one room in the county of Santa Cruz and that was Fast Eddy's. And I owned it as of Jan. 1, 1980. We never had any kind of 8 ball tournament for $35 entry. And I have never tried to stiff a tournament winner or wellch out on a bet in my life. Take my word for it like I have to take yours. Besides, I have never formally met you in my life. Maybe it was a bar you played at. That was a long time ago. In the early 90's a room called The Break Room opened in Santa Cruz but they only lasted about 7 years and I do not recall anything close to a tournament like that there. So you must have been at another place and time.
