California pool halls

I just returned from a west coast road trip, I call it a road trip because it sounds cooler then .....family vacation..... which it was:wink:. I was able to see quite a few famous pool halls and even play in a few of them. My first stop was the city by the bay, I was able to briefly check out Family Billiards. It looked like a cool place with lots of Gold Crowns and decent amount of room, although I did not see any families there it was fun. Then I went by Town and Country billiards in Daly City I did not play but poked my head in the door for a few minutes. It was a cool looking building at a busy intersection. Then it was down to Pismo beach and I spent a little time at HotShots Billiards, nice room but it only had a few tables that I would call competition tables. Then we were on our way to the big city of Los Angles, where I played for a few hours at Yankee Doodles aka the third street billiard club. I also snuck in the House of Billiards hoping to see Jay there but it was early in the day and the action was slow. My last stop was San Diego where I played for awhile at Jolt'n Joes, another good room with lots of room upstairs. I passed through Las Vegas on the way home and thought about Fatboys invite but we had less than a half of a day and needed to show the family Down town, the strip and Bellagio's buffet $$$ ( I thought buffets were cheap:eek: ) oh well we had a great time on the west coast and you folks have some great pool rooms.

Sounds like you had a good time.....wish we had known you were coming.
For San Diego I would have steered you away from Jolt N Joes (average to mediocre tables) and suggested College Billiards as it is the oldest room in town & used to be Swanee's "home" & is currently owned by a world ranked 3 cushion player. Also On Cue Billiards.

In LAish you missed Hard Times in Bellflower - another room with a lot of history !!!!!

Now you will just have to come back

Jolt 'n Joes (Gas Lamp district) used to be Gas Lamp Billiards owned by Mark Griffin.

Sorry to hear you missed the best rooms: Hard Times Billiards (Bellflower and Sacramento), College Billiards, and Hollywood Billiards.

The only players room you hit was Family Billiards and maybe House of Billiards Santa Monica. Next time.

I hear what your saying but there were six of us and my wife and both daughters are big into shopping so my boys and me needed to be with in walking distance to most of the places we went. I noticed that a few were more like night clubs rather then old school rooms but they were way better then sitting outside chick stores watching the world go by:wink: I will admit some of the world that walked by was fun to look at:grin-devilish:

i was in HOB in santa monica a couple times this past week. Wished I knew you were in LA I just got back to Vegas last nite.

bay area

If you're around the Bay Area again, check out California Billiard Club in Mountain View......Pretty sure you'd like it..........nice room....players there like to play one-pocket.....

Next time, skip Yankee Doodles and hit Lucilles's BBQ about 3 minutes away!!!

The tables at Yankee suck and never any action, but the BBQ at Lucilles it the NUTZ!!!!

Sounds like you had a great trip... :)
