Meet the Blind Man Nicknamed ‘Midnight Gunslinger’ Who Has 80% Shot AccuracyMay. 21, 2013 1:29pm Liz Klimas

We’ve seen how a woman born without arms didn’t let her disability keep her from learning to shoot guns. Now, a Florida man nicknamed “Midnight Gunslinger” is showing that he too hasn’t let his disability stop him from being a fast, accurate shooter either.

Jim Miekka of Citrus County is completely blind.

Bay News 9 reported that Miekka has been practicing fast draw shooting for a year now at the Hernando Sportsman’s Club with other Classical Fast Draw Society members.

“When I first started I was hitting about 25 percent of the time. Now I think I’m hitting about 80 percent or something like that,” Miekka told Bay News 9.

Not only is he accurate, but he can draw and shoot in about a half a second. Miekka noted that sometimes someone will tap the target so he can use his hearing to hone in on its exact location.

“Not being able to see the target, remember where it is and actually get right on it. He’s done awesome,” Randie “Mad Jack” Rickert said.

Watch Miekka demonstrate his fast draw skills in a Bay News 9 video here...

A while back, I had posted about a blind man that plays pool. He does have a coach, and the magazine it was in (can't remember which one) interviewed him and his opponent. He did beat his opponent, and, needless to say, his opponent tried to speak well of him, but was obviously quite embarrassed about losing to a blind man.

There have been a few blind golfers as well. They had a coach that helped them get aligned and all but it was amazing how well they played.

last season

I was 100% blind in my left eye up to 1/21 of this year then I had eye surgery,
I am now 20/20,

I lead the league being half blind,
I think its funny.

Be careful with what you have.

No a blind person cannot excel at pool.

Why is it we can't just admit certain disabilities preclude certain activities without being branded bigots, pigs or bullies? I am sick to the back teeth of PC and the little engine who could.

I will play any blind pool player for any stakes any day. How ridiculous this question is. Where the hell has common sense gone? Stop it already!

JC

PS: and no "coach" to line up the shot. Dogs and chimps can be trained to make shots like that no doubt.

Who ever said a blind person could excel at pool? Can they actually play it with a little success? Yes. Your statement about playing one for cash without a coach is what's ridiculous. They wouldn't even know where the balls are, and might spend 5 minutes just trying to figure out where the table even is at.

However, a blind guy beating a sighted guy does show us something. It shows just how important proper fundamentals really are. The coach can line you up, but you still have to be able to stroke straight down that line he put you on. If you can't do that, the coach might as well not even be there.

By the way, the coach only coached, not physically lined the guy up. Have a friend try and line you up sometime while you play with your eyes closed. You just might have a little more appreciation for what the guy actually accomplished.

I will allow the coach to tap the object ball so the player can hone in on it with his hearing but the spot is going down then.

Who said a blind person could excel at pool? Don't worry, it's on the way. Blind person threads always seem to get there no matter if it's pool, hunting, auto mechanics, or whatever. When I go blind, I'm quitting pool.
