Is it true that anyone who comes up with the entry fee can play in the Open, or do you have to qualify somehow?

You also have to be a male.

It's a long story, but females are not allowed to enter.
If you do a search, you may be able to find the past discussions of this issue.

What's the buy-in for that event? I heard somewhere it was $500....

You also need another $500 for all the beers you have to pay for the AZB'ers that attend the event..:) :) :) .........just kidding.

He's not kidding. Just bring the extra $500 for beer. :D

i like the way they put it on one of the accu stats tapes i have. if you like your game and your chances come on down. that's why they call it the US "Open"

Has anyone ever done that?

Has anyone reading this, not including the pro players, ever plunked down five bills to participate in the U.S. Open?

Is that how it works? If I payed my entry fee could my first match be against John Schmidt or Francisco Bustamonte? Nothing cooler.

If anyone has, how did they do?

I haven't done it myself, but I know a couple people who have. They were just fulfilling a dream and they enjoyed it totally. One of them even won a round or two. :D

To answer your other question, it is possible to play one of the top players in the first round. IIRC, the top players are seeded, per the UPA standings, and the rest is up to the draw.

My fear is I'd travel there, plop down my five bills, and then get beat out in two matches by two other no-name B players doing the same thing as me ;-)

And then you realize the hotel doesn't care if you won or not, you paid for 7 nights. Then you start thinking about what you is gonna be eating for the rest of the week. Oh, and hang on to that plane ticket! I figure it will set you back about $1,500 to $2,000 just to stay there and watch.
I honestly think a hotel at VA. Beach on the water is the way to go. You can get to the convention center in about 30 minutes and you have a much better selection of food. Just my .02 guys.

Hey, it could be a "rewarding" experience.
1. You get to know how those two that beat you fare against the remaining field......
2. You get to know some of the players and have conversations before, after or maybe during their smoke breaks....
3. You get to hang out with all the AZB'ers at the event.
4. You get to know the vendors since you'll be the entire week.
5. You get to see all the cues you wish you could buy all at one time.
6. You could go to the Navy Ship Yard.
7. You could visit "Busch Gardens."
8. You could go the the mall.
9. You could go to Virginia Beach for some Sea-Food.
10. You could go to "Q-Masters" for 24/7 action.
11. You could meet Barry and Brady Behrman.
12. You will be greeted everyday by "Pineapple" Morris at the US Open entrance.
13. You could take lots of pictures with your Camera (no flashes please)
14. You could buy US Open memorabilia (T shirts, Polo's, etc.)
15. and last but not least, you'll meet lots of good friends.....

Yeah but then you have the chance to play some of the best players in the world.I'd pay the money for that ,and I will be there.I played shane van boening in jacksonville at the ten ball event.I got killed but made a friend.Should've saved some cash to play francisco though, next time.I'm practicing with my high school buddy Teddy 'g' Garrahan,go butler bulldogs.

What are the dates for the event? I am going to see if I can make it there before I deploy. Also, is it in Chesapeake, VA? I am trying to scout out places to stay.
