Can anyone fade this bet?

If so, WHO?

I was just talking with a buddy of mine who was talking about some of the craziest games he saw back in the day.

ONE of those was by Jimmy Matz, back BEFORE he had his accident.

The bet was that you rack up 9 ball, you get the break and ball in hand after the break, and you have to run out, in order, no combos on the 9.....WITHOUT TOUCHING A RAIL.

Now i've been around long enough to have seen some goofy things in pool, but to be perfectly honest, this is just way beyond me.
I can't see this being done consistently whether the guy breaks hard, or breaks them soft, or with ANY break for that matter.

Has anyone ever seen this done? Where the guy shooting walks away with the cash?

I'm not talking about doing it once out of a ton of times, cause the bet was by the rack, and Jimmy apparently DEMOLISHED that game, to the point where the guy betting against him quit. Where in most games of this nature, even if you start off good, time will most likely beat you in the end.

I would think that for someone to be able to do this, that they are not human, and must be an alien.

It can't be done....unless you get ball in hand on EVERY shot... and even then you might not be able to do it (if two balls are frozen)...

( I'll take the bet and bet AGAINST the player )

You can pick the player and I will go bust. Bet what they want. I can't fathom someone being able to take this game down over the long run making a legal break. Now if you let CD break at any speed he likes then you may have a player but that would be the only exception I can think of.

Making a legal break is the key to the bet IMO.

Somebodys leg is being pulled. I used to do eight ball this way but never nine ball.

With anyone else, i would have no doubt that it was/is impossible to win over the long run.
Maybe they might win out of the gate and the guy might quit for fear of losing more, but it can't last. Not over the long run.

But this is Jimmy Matz we're talking about.

With him choosing the break speed, it might be a coin toss.

Who knows.

i have tried alot of times to and its about impossible to run a rack with out touching a rail unless the balls are laying perfect.

It's a gaffe game of some kind. I have played games before where the rails are pockets and the gaffe there was that any object ball touching a cushion is in but any time the cueball touches a rail - it's a scratch and loss of game.

I don't know who Jimmy Matz is - never heard of him - but if he or anyone else wants to bet this game without any trick rules then they have action with me and can bust me on it. Randomly racked balls. I practice running out without touching a rail and it's triple tough to NEVER need a rail in 9 ball.

good practice

That would be a good drill to practice. It would help with speed, position, and would help learn to pinch the ball I would think. I wouldn't bet I could do it.

Here's another drill that SOUNDS easy. Line 10 balls up across the foul line and shoot each ball forward slightly, passing the previously shot ball. Try to shoot all 10 balls without hitting the side rail, the other end rail or any other ball. The first time that you DON'T go past the previous ball or commit one of those other fouls, you start over.
When you've accomplished this feat, use all 15 balls on the line and try it. It's much harder to do without touching another ball, rail or falling short of the mark.
You start to run out of room before the far end rail if you shoot any ball just a liiiiiiiiiiittle too hard. :)
Doug
( I've done it with 15 balls......... can YOU ? )

AND, will you bet on it ?

It CAN be done and Jimmy may have been able to do it. The trick is to bank some balls cross side or cross corner (even long rail) to hold your position with the Cue ball. Other than that every shot is either draw or follow and you must have perfect speed control. On 5" pockets, Jimmy could have done it.

Larry Lisciotti could beat the 9-Ball Ghost without BIH after the break. He had to break them open and then shoot from there. He ALWAYS left himself a shot on the One and that was all he needed. It wasn't easy and he might lose sometimes, but in the long run, Larry could do it.

Yes, yes, yes. The old "Poison Cushion" game was what they used to call it. I've heard of people doing it in 8-ball and straight pool, but not in 9-ball. Entirely possible though.

I'll give 10 to 1.

Can play long race or 8/10 ahead.

ANYBODY can get action.

PM if interested.

I won't engage open forum woofers.

I hear where your coming from, but i dunno. You get out of line just a little, and it's over with. It's crazy
I'd like to see someone do it though.

Bust me. Period. As long as there is no play on words, etc. I will bet that you won't break, take ball in hand, run out without the cueball not touching a rail. You win the first one, I'll post up again. PM me.

in '71' i was in "the pool room" hanging out one afternoon .....someone called and said they would be there that evening ....they claimed this guy could put a cue ball in his mouth . spit it out , and make it go 7 rails.....
these two guys arrived at the room that evening , one of them went around and bet everyone ..this guy put the q-ball in his mouth ...( a feat in itself ) ... grabbed ahold of the end rail , and spit the ball out , hitting the first diamond like he was shooting the standard 5 rail in the corner.....
I dont think he did it on the first attempt , but he did it .then , over to the billiard table .bigger ball , 10 foot table .did it again ...........
the only reason I would bet on any shot is to see the move ......perhaps a small amount ...........it might be worth it just for the story ....

the moral here is ..... if someone bets you they can do something , or you cant do something ...they are more than likely right .........
