Ralf Souquet vs. Sylver Ochoa. Sylver wins on a hill-hill. He dogged a 9-ball on the hill, allowing Ralf to get to 10. Sylver got back to the table and managed to score the big "W." After the match, I spoke to Ralf, and he said, "I dogged it."

Tang Hoa vs. Neils Feijen went 11 to 9. There was a little scuttlebutt on the side. I think Niels was complaining that Tang was playing a little slow, but there was no controversy and the game went forward with Tang still hanging tough.

Andres Roshkowski vs. Jeremy Jones. Jeremy lost, and I don't know the score.

Luc Salvas vs. Earl Strickland. When I left, it was 6 to 6.

Vilmos Foeldes vs. Keith McCready. Keith got drilled. He got one shot in 5 games. Final score, 11 to 5, with the Hugarian scoring the big win. Keith is out of the tournament.

Young-Hwa Jeong vs. Eric Moore. When I left, the score was 6 to 2, Young-Hwa Jeong on top.

Brandon Shuff vs. Larry Nevel. Brandon Shuff won on a hill-hill. He is now playing Max Eberle.

Evgeny Stalev beat mike Davis, 11 to 6.

Raj Hundal beat Tony Robles on a hill-hill.

Signing off for now.

Sorry for Keith and Mike, but Brandon Shuff, a DC tournament local, is having a great tournament and has knocked off some huge names. Congrats to him!

The Chesapeake Conference Center closed down for the night, but nobody wanted to leave. Out front, there was a huge crowd hanging out, laughing, sharing stories, and just having fun, and people are still arriving every day. Dennis Wilson and Tommy Kay from my neck of the woods showed up, and Sweet Marissa just flew in and was given a ride by none other than Brandon Ashcraft who was nice enough to pick her up at the airport.

BTW, the majority of the evening, every single seat in the audience was filled to the brim. People were sitting on the steps, sweating the matches. It was standing room only, but nobody was complaining. This 30th U.S. Open is a complete success.

I am so bummed that I did not attend the Steve Mizerak Tribute Dinner. Everybody who went said they really enjoyed themselves. Earl Strickland stole the show, reminiscing with The Miz. The two of them exchanged comical jabs, and those in attendance said it was a first-class affair that they will never forget.

Here's some scores at the close of this Friday night.

Chris Bartrum beat 2004 U.S. Open Champion Gabe Owen, 11 to 8.

1992 U.S. Open Champion Tommy Kennedy lost to P. Mastiescci (sp), 11 to 6.

Dee Adkins shined tonight and beat Californian Shining Star Dave Hemmah, 11 to 6.

Max Eberle was focused and brought his "A" game to the table when he whooped up on my local hometown favorite player, 22-year-old Brandon Shuff, 11 to 4.

Russian Evgeny Stalev came out on top over Puerto Rican Champion Alan Rolan on a tension-filled hill-hill.

Joey Korsiac lost to Corey Harper, but I didn't catch the score.

A whole slew of people rode on over to Q-Masters, and tonight I'm sure every table in the joint is going. Nick Varner, Keith McCready, Timothy Hall, and Tommy Kay were swapping old-time war stories, and if I only had a tape recorder, it would have made for some great reading.

That's about it for tonight. I'm getting me some sleep and preparing for Saturday night.

Efren lost to Jose Parica on the winners' side 11 to 8, and Alex Pagulayan and Francisco Bustamante's match on the TV table was tight, but Alex prevailed, 11 to 9 (I think).

Efren and Bustie are still in this U.S. Open, and I look forward to seeing them play tomorrow.

I wonder if 'Angry White' is around in the stands. I would love to make him the same bet I made in last years DCC 9 ball that a Filipino will win.

Brackets have been updated.
Shane won vs ivica
Shane also won vs Fabio

Lee heuwaugon beat putnam 11-9

During the Reyes/Strickland match, I heard Scott Smith announce Carlie Bryant v. Corey Harper... Corey Harper won his match last night and played Shane VanBoening today.. I guess Shane lost his match. And if that's the case, Shane, great showing. We'll be seeing you around! :)
