Can Archer make a difference?

I had seen a previous thread on here that was talking about CJ being the Mosconi Cup Captain and if Johnny Archer was going to be on the team again. I believe personally that he will be however nothing is ever guarenteed. I think the USA Team have their hands full this year in London especially at York Hall as its crazy over there and tough to fade all the Euro fans. My question is without Archer can the USA beat the Euros and how much does Archer bring to Team USA. I think he brings alot but I may be biased. I would love to hear if others feel the same.

I'm not a big fan of Archer's lint picking play, but there's no question he's one of the most consistent players to ever play the game.

It seems CJ has a nice connection with Earl. Perhaps if Earl were on the team this year CJ could get the maximum effort out of him. If you can keep Earl focused, he can beat anybody in the world

I personally would like C J to be given a clean slate. Shane VB and Mke Dechaine are essential. But it would help CJ establish the New Dawn for pool in America with a batch of youngsters.
Unless there is a really standout performance of the Old Guard then I would like to see some new blood (under 30s) in the team.
This would afford CJ the opportunity to stamp his mark in a way that he might not be able to do with his peer group.

A standout performance would be to win it.
Then a veteran campaigner could not be denied a team spot.
Otherwise, it is time to grasp the nettle and bring some OOMPH into the US scene.

archer MUST be on team! and yes at york hall it will be crazy - lets fight back with our own crazy ---- EARL S.

I personally don't think the US has a replacement for Archer, if so I would love to hear the players name. Archer can handle the pressure of a team. Dechaine and SVB can also, I also believe Earl is the magic ticket this year. I hope we can win but I think we will lack in our line up again

lets keep this rolling about earl. CJ i hope u feel the same wat

The fans would get Earl to implode before he gets through the green lane at Heathrow.

I think that you have to have a veteran with a lot of Mosconi Cup experience and the perfect person would be JA! Earl is playing great and I would love to see him on the team, but the truth is the European fans would tip him over the edge in about 2 minutes.

I was a regular at York Hall for the Mosconi Cup for many years when I was stationed in England with the US Air Force. I used to bring about 15 other American fans with me, just so that Team USA had some support. We were of course horribly out numbered. Plus the Europeans have songs for everything and they really root on Team Europe well, but they also can nit pick at things and get under your skin. That's why Earl cannot go!

I think CJ will do a great job. I would love to see Archer, SVB, Dechaine, O. Dominguez, and Shuff on Team USA!!

Let's face it, Archer is a living legend still capable of playing lights out at a moment's notice. He is a champion in every sense and would add to the US team's credentials. Still, he hasn't been the Archer of old in 2012 at the most prestigious events in rotational pool. He was tied for 14th at the Derby City 9-ball event, did not cash in the Derby City "Fatboy" 10-ball event, came 13th at the US Open 10-ball event and was 9th at Turning Stone XIX.

The case is much stronger for Stevie Moore, who came 2nd in the Derby City 9-ball, 2nd in the Derby City "Fatboy" 10-ball event, and 2nd at the Players Championship at the Super Billiards Expo.

Let's have a team consisting of those who are playing well this year! We're doing Europe a favor if we don't have Stevie Moore on Team America.

Archer is a must have on the team.........but Matchroom picks the players.

Landon Shuffett is definitely a young up & comer. But, doesn't he plan on going to college? This would be a much better move for his overall future in my opinion.

Landon's victory over Earl in 10 ball on a 10' table did completely blow me away! Amazing talent for one so young.

The Old Gaurd!

There are not enough young, up and coming player to fill a team..., not a team that could win.

There is barely enough American players period to field a winning team. The practice field is where you develope your team, not at the live event, its game on by then and we need the proven players at hand, Archer's got my vote!

Agreed. I would ditch Archer.

Remember experience does play a factor. I have heard from many pros they have never felt any more intense heat like they have felt in The Moconi Cup.......

How about SVB, Dechaine, Archer, Earl, & Shuffett?

Frankly, I'm amazed that -- because of *one* match (i.e. Landon vs. Earl) -- that we're willing to vote Landon in on the Mosconi Cup team representing Team USA?

I agree with Stu (sjm) that Stevie Moore is a much better choice, but a better choice than Landon, not necessarily Archer.

Landon, although a great player (and certainly, great things are expected of him as he matures in his pool endeavors), he's not yet Mosconi Cup material. People are so blown away by his *one match* with Earl -- an Earl that's a coin flip whether "he's there with us" or not, mind you -- that the stars in their eyes are blinding the fact that Landon has no qualifying hardware yet. He's got to earn his place on the team. Wildcards are great, but they have to be intelligently-played wildcards.

I do think Landon *will be* on the Mosconi Cup team -- very soon. Just not this year.

I agree. It was hard watching Putnam dissolve under the pressure last year. His day three performance was the worst I have seen.

One of the great things about Archer is that he's a true team player. One merely need to remember the propping up and boost that Archer provided as a doubles teammate to a very weak Putnam, and, in a year prior, to a weak Corey Deuel.

Going "all new blood" might be a great move; then again, not having a single veteran on the team -- and a proven teammate/booster like Archer -- might be the team's Achilles heel.
