Can Diamond Rails-Cushions be Installed Wrong?

FYI, I just added the following disclaimer to my bank and kick shot aiming system resource page, based on my experiences and all of the reports I have seen from others:

NOTE - Traditional kicking and banking systems work fairly well on most pool equipment; although, adjustments will be required based on table conditions. Also, Diamond brand tables (especially the older "Red label" Diamonds) play much shorter than all other table brands, so significant adjustments will need to be made (by aiming down-table more) when playing on Diamond tables.

Regards,
Dave
If worn cloth never plays like new cloth plays....the question is what changed? Because if it's the same cushions under the new cloth play ability as the cushions under the worn cloth playability, then why do tables change in how they play?

There is no question that how a table plays changes with conditions.

But that is not the question here.

The question is: Why does a Diamond, with the same new cloth as other tables, kick and bank much shorter than the other tables? It can't be the cloth if the cloth is the same in the comparison.

Dave

I would go even further and say that even if the cloth is worn and the balls are a dirty, the table should still bank in the ballpark as other tables under similar conditions. These problems don't result in someone not being able to even shoot a typical 3-rail shot just because the cloth is worn or the balls are dirty on other tables.

If the tables don't have the same amount of wear on the cloth, and using the same balls, even the cloth installed by the same installer....then the tables are all going to play different, right? When was the last time you were in a pool room full of GCs and they all played exactly the same from one table to the next?

Tons of people still don't like the blue label diamonds, whether with the cheaper cushions, or the aramith cushions.

Diamond should have copied the GC rail 100% exactly, and used their same cushion supplier as well.

They should have done this when switching the design to the "blue".

No one complains how the ball reacts off the GC rail. Only when the cushions go bad. Half the diamond players seem to complain about the diamond cushions, whether red or blue label.

IMO.

There would not be a single person complaining about the diamond rails if this were to have happened. Opportunity missed.

You missed your calling, you should have started a business manufacturing pool tables so you can show everyone how to do it right....instead of just talking the talk....try walking the walk, cheap advice is always free because you have no vested interest in the business!

I'm using the 3-rail shot as an example. There is no other table that I've played on where the 3-rail shot wouldn't go because the table banked so short that you would scratch in the side first. I don't care how dirty the balls are and how worn the cloth is, all other tables you could still execute that shot.

Can you post a video of it?

You'd be surprised at how many people tell me how a pool table should play, and they can't run 3 balls in a row themselves.

Got any facts to back up that statement, or is that just your opinion?

Sorry I don't have any facts but I have to agree to a large extent with iusedtoberich. I used to think blue labels were very consistent but after a larger sampling across the country I have changed my mind. So it's also my opinion

Well, I'm top 4-5 in our league and got the second highest number of table runs last season. Not that that should really matter. I would say that the number of years someone has played and how often they play probably has more of a bearing. I've played for over 20 years and I practice every day at least a couple hours. That table is the first one I've ever come across where you can't execute that standard 3-rail shot.

You've been saying for 10 years since you joined this forum that the cushions play great. First it was the red (years before the blue came out). You would yell at anyone that said they were too bouncy, just like you are yelling at me now. Then you/Gregory/Sullivan, whoever, made the blue cushion. Improved, of course, but people are still complaining about them. When was the last time you heard anyone complain about a GC 4 or 5 cushion?

Instead of yelling at us, you should have copied the GC.

You did the same thing with the ball marking issue. You would yell at anyone who said there was a problem, for years. You blamed them for not cleaning the balls enough, or they were using the wrong alcohol or wahteeesr type cleaner on the pocket leather.

We WANT the diamond tables to play great. But you just keep yelling at anyone who says they do not.

We can all play pretty much the same on about any commercial 9' table. Even the chinese knockoffs. The ball comes off the rail about the same on all of them. Its just the Diamond rail that is the lone difference.

Funny, you must have me mixed up with someone else because I never supported the play of the red lable designed rails, i didn't really like how they played 17 years ago when I first got involved with Diamond:eek: Spot on the balls, I've never defended that happening, although I have tried to give my advice on how to stop them, but slamming balls into the pockets then complaining about black marks is not playing pool the way it's suppose to be played in my book. Maybe when GM starts copying Ford, they won't be filing for bankruptcy any time soon....if Diamond wanted to copy Brunswick, then people just like YOU would be complaining all about how Diamond just copyed Brunswick so you'd still have something to ***** about, you guys are never happy. I can play on ANY pool table to the best of my ability because I know how to adjust to the table....maybe you should learn how to do that, maybe your game would improve.:D

Ha ha, par for the course:) Catch you on the next one.

Off topic but, a question for RKC, does diamond use different rubber on their 7ft pro ams compared to the 9ft pro ams? Or even the pro am compared to the classic? Just curious., I may buy a diamond in the future and I'd like to know if some use the Artemis cushions or not. Thanks

Sorry, meant the professional, not classic
