Can our sport ride the green wave ???

Please don't tell me you think the answer to solving pools problems and improving its image is pot!! This will definitely drive many away from any public use of the sport of pool.

I love playing the game, and my girls play with me whenever I go to shoot. If pot became a mainstream support of pool, or something that was closely intertwined with the sport, I would strongly do whatever I could to keep them from getting close to the sport. Kids are the future of any sport. Why in the world would we want to make pool something that is less family friendly than it is already viewed?

Too soon huh.

Maybe down the road somewhere !

It's only been illegal for 80+ years.

And that seems to be a farce to many now.

I know cancer patients want to try the oil before chemo and radiation !

Maybe my point is too hard to imagine for many yet.

I think that this is an interesting post.

In general, I think that the game should try to make strides in changing the game to be more classy, competitive, and presentable in its public image. Although I'm not against the more sinister elements of the game because they are and always have been just one side of the game.

I think that the alcohol industry latched on and rode on the pool bandwagon for decades. So did big tobacco. I guess in someways it had its positive effects financially, while degraded the game in other ways. Alcohol goes hand in hand with pool nowadays, as it is mostly viewed as a bar sport to the ill informed public.

I mean, pot sponsorship may help in some ways but I dont think its going to be the answer of course. Maybe just get some coverage in some of those popular pot magazines that many young people read on how pool is a game you can enjoy when catching a buzz.

A couple years ago when my dad was dying of bladder cancer, they wanted to try one more cycle of high-dose chemo. The doctor was worried that he would be too sick to eat, and wasting away from malnutrition is a leading cause of actual death during cancer.

The doc prescribed Emend for the nausea, but Dad's insurance wouldn't cover the cost. At the time it was something like $300 a pill! Disgusting, considering it may be a life saver for many cancer patients because it can help them survive the treatment that may possibly cure them. All of us kids just agreed to pay out of pocket for it, he was our dad after all. Luckily for us, he was a vet and he was able to get it for free from the VA (after a lot of pressure).

He never got nauseous from the chemo (although his kidneys did shut down, and that put him in the hospital), but the cost out of pocket would not have been doable for a non-veteran without means or family to support them. Since then I've been doing a lot of reading about cannabis and chemo. Turns out most folks respond much better to the natural herb than they do to the man-made drug.

Why do they take the Emend instead? On most chemo forums I've looked at, the main reasons were either fear (shades of "Reefer Madness"?) or unavailability. As one woman put it on a search I just did:

"Great if you can get it! At my age, trying to locate marijuana without winding up in jail is a daunting task! I know I considered it when I remember how well it handled nausea during the flu in my younger wilder days!"

So, Big Pharma makes out like a bandit selling a drug for megabucks that does only one thing: help with nausea. OTOH a simple herb you can grow on your front porch does a better job at handling the nausea, while also aiding appetite, relieving pain and anxiety, and providing a nice uplift in your mood in what may well be your last days on the planet.

That's a sad statement regarding our society.

Welcome to 2014.
Personally I think it's a good thing for us here.
It may turn out to be bad,but only time will tell.
the whole country is watching how this gos down.
At least the oppressive jack boots of the Federal government have decided so far to let us have our states rights. Right or wrong.
And just to make things clear I used to smoke it but not anymore.

Pot is everywhere here in Colorado. You can smell it growing in warehouses and homes driving all over town. Shops are everywhere with big signs displaying the green cross. When you walk in its just like buying gum at 7/11. People smoke openly as long as police are not present. People use vape pens in the pool hall and pass them around. This is the future like it or not. There are huge grow stores everywhere suppling equipment to cultivate. Plumbers, electricians, carpenters, trimmers, sheet metal workers, the list goes on and on are all busy and getting paid well. Building inspectors are in demand all the time. The people who dont use it dont even care anymore. Once its legal it just blends in. Our newspaper The Denver Post (whats left of it) has a whole department dedicated to pot and they have been running pot stories for years now. Every day there are many articles about every aspect of the industry. I guess its boosted their business also.
As a pool saver other than the fact that playing on pot is lots of fun I dont see the synergy. Pool is for league players, bangers and old guys like me. Pro pool is going away unfortunately.
