can someone help me custom a SHAFT to match my cue?

I don't think there is a sign outside KJ's shop that says, 'Custom Shafts made, pay what you think it's worth' When you ask someone for a price and they say it... then that's what it is. If it's not to your liking, then move on down the road. If you know of a cheaper price for a shaft done right and matched ringwork, then just go and buy that one.
I am interested to know what makes the O.P. think that this is a steep price? What does he think is a fair price to pay?

Sometimes, I really wonder about what goes on in people's minds.......

those price is kinda too spicy ..if price is lower i would love to have one

I'm sure the quality of the KJ's wood is also atleast "A" grade too !!!!

My shafts start @ 85.00 including rings but you aren't going to get an "A" grade shaft for that price and I'm extremely reasonable with my prices and will use existing rings if requested !!!

So my advice to you is to have him do the job ! he obviously want's to help you and earn your business... so give him a chance !

Sincerely, Eddie Wheat

The insert also makes it interesting, I could be wrong but I only know of a couple that have that style.

well my question was asking for a better price.. i mean i'm sure you would be the same..if u wanted something and peoples ask you for the price he wanted and i'm sure in your MIND you would ask for a better price?
and dont tell me that's not truth...i dont have any problem with KJ's price..cuz i know how he do business and i have peoples that done business with him already..like i said..it was just a question for a better price.he can say no to the simple question correct?

if you realy wanna find out wat is going on in peoples mind then you should go find out that too..same thing that's your question.go ask and do research to find out

The problem is some people don't hold value to anything. Maybe I was brought up different but I go to work and the money I make I invest in cuebuilding. Which makes me have a value on a good price. However If you go to a "Custom Cue Maker" and not Walmart and want a job done, don't expect to get the cheapest price. Also don't expect to get poor craftsmanship. Most of us will stand behind our work without question. Some will not. This thread burns me up. Man this kind of stuff never used to bother me before.

This BOZO e-mailed me about making this shaft (yesterday). I told him, it wasn't a job that I wanted to do & that he wasn't a customer that I thought I could please. NO THANK YOU...JER

there is nothing worng with bargin shopping but kj's price from a custom cuemaker is too low. i wouldnt do it for that.

ps mcdermott charges with matching ringwork for this cue
150$ maple
220$ intimidator
250$ predator
270$ predator z

If they can get $250 for a Predator, I can sure as hell get it for one of my shafts. Why should our work be worth less? Like a veteran builder told me once, "If you don't raise your prices to where you want them early on, then you'll never get it. Once people learn your prices, they will always expect it." He was 100% right.

You're "jaded" these days ..

KJ cues, I don't think your prices are "spicy" ... it seems very fair and better than any price I can get locally.

When I've ask someone to quote a price, that's the price it will cost, plain and simple. I have never pressed someone to go cheaper, but that's me, I pay for it or I look else where. I have been in the service field for 26-27 years and have been recovering pooltables on the side for 18yrs. As soon as someone starts to try to get the price lower, I politely stand firm, then if nessesary, walk away. My time is worth a certain amount to me, and I'm not going to take less than the stated price, as this makes it look like I was over charging in the first place or I do less than quality work, which in KJ's case, He definatly doesn't do either. I realize that you're not saying he does less than quality work, but you did imply that his prices were "crazy" and as this thread has shown, his prices are more than fair. Someone may offer do this shaft for a cheaper price, and if so I sincerly hope it works out for you.

your in ny call paul or pete and ask them to make you a shaft

a mcdermott with a tascarella shaft would play awesome

yea that point i understand and i do understand that kind of ring work and joint will cosh a bit.. yes i did imply that kj price is a bit high of my price range but as i said..i'm sure everyone would have the thing in mind be like oh that price will b e a bit high but will is possible to drop the price a bit.. but yes i do know cuemaker stand up for their price because of their work.
so i'm not saying anything wrong with the price. but it just a mind thing tat hey in human who doesn't want to pay a cheaper price the org price?
it just a though in mind..but they dont have to drop the price. at other hand if i really needed it i'm sure i would pay the price for it. cuz we love the pool game and pool game we need to pay the price for the hobby

hypnauticz....

I know it seems that you are catching alot of hell for this situation. In my opinion you just weren't experienced in dealing with cue makers or with what shafts cost. Most of these guys have tried to help you understand what the reality of the situation is.

If I were you, and I still wanted a shaft. I would nicely ask KJ if he would build you the shaft you want and pay his price. It is more than fair. Just chalk this up as a lesson learned

Hope this helps :)

Oh... and apologizing for the misunderstanding would probably help your cause as well

Where was the misunderstanding?

For whatever reason he misunderstood what a fair price on a good shaft was. I can't blame him for bartering, it is the American way. However he was getting a GREAT deal to begin with. IMO

He wasn't bartering.
He tried to bargain down a great offer of help.
Do you really think he did not know the price of shafts?
