Can you hit 9 rails on a bank shot?

I was trolling on CCB and there is this thread now going on : 8 rails?
Most were saying they could only hit 8 rails and were asking what was going on. They could not understand how FL could hit 11 and nobody else can even get close to this. They had a link up there where you could click it and go into his web site and actually see him perform the 11 rail shot on video. I took his exact pattern to the bar box I play on and could only make 7 rails. I was shocked. I went to a better room with nicer commercial tables and could only make 8 rails. I tried a 3rd room that has fairly new gold crowns and new simonois and after about 25 tries I barely made 9 rails like you see the guys on ESPN do. I made 9 by less than an inch. Tell me then how in the hell does fl get 9' past where I can go and all these world class trick shot shooters on TV.
I am a pretty strong guy with a very strong break so what gives here. Any body else tried to go do this, if so, how did you come out?
You obviously need a decent table and rails and a fast cloth. You need to go see that 11 railer, it is amazing.

I can make 9 on my home table which is fast. I think the Larry shot is done with a severly stretched cloth, or even possibly just a thin blue linen bed sheet. When you look at the video, the last 4 rails are done at about lag speed. What table have you seen that can bounce 4 rails at lag speed?

Or maybe Larry is such an impressive physical specimen perhaps he can.. Nahhhh.

I seen a guy hit 10.........inbetween him flyin the cue ball off the table a few times......He swore he could hit 11. I never saw it, but he said he had done it! I couldn't believe he kept the ball on the table he hit it so hard. But if it stayed on the table past that 1st and 2nd rail he could get 10.

Wipe the QB with a rag that has silicone on it (WD40) or Pledge.

here's how to get the most speed out of the cue ball. first, spray the crap out of the cue ball with silicone. next stretch the living daylights out of simonis rapid 200 cloth. next make sure you have either snooker cushions or accu-fast cushions. make sure it's 50 degrees, or colder in the room with zero humidity. use a hard triangle tip. if you do all of this, you might be able to get 16 cushions!!!

I can get 9 rails but getting back to the other end is not going to happen, at least with my stroke.

This is with new 860, new balls and a new table. Nothing else special. I'm pleased with 9 rails.

You've forgotten to use a Mali.

Jerry, wow that is a tough one. How could FL possibly hit 11 rails? I have an idea. Why don't you ask him? Or do people think you are crazy when you talk to yourself?

Here is another one to ask yourself. How many times does someone have to be told they are not welcome somewhere before they finally figure it out and go away?

Some people just don't know when it's time to go home.

i have seen larry do it on an undoctored table with a normal cueball. he just hits it that hard.

Absolutely hilarious.

Thanks, Mike, for the info!

If you can get 9 on simonis you can get 11 if you had tournament pro cloth.
It is at least 2 rails faster.

It's not hard to get 11 rails on new cloth on a carom table. I saw Mike Massey do it on his third try. I usually need a few more tries.

On a pool table, it would help to have very slippery bed cloth and very sticky cushions. The cushions can actually reverse the top/bottom spin and sort of launch the ball off the cushion.

On a snooker table I've played the ball up the middle, and hit the end cushion I shot from three times, and I don't hit the ball particularly hard. It really depends a lot on the ball, cushion and cloth.

I think I remember seeing Mike Massey doing this in one of his demos but it was a joke. He'd hit the ball and as it came back around the table he'd hit it again and then repeat that a few times. I would say that if anyone could do it legitimately, it would be Mike. I've never seen anyone with a stroke as powerful as his, but then I haven't seen Larry either.

I must be naive, but to me the value of being able to execute a shot should be directly related to its usefulness in an actual game situation... :)

Troy...~~~ three rail kicks are enough for me... :)

whats next?!? maybe who can throw a piece of chalk the farthest or maybe who can balance a cue on the end of his nose for the longest with out blinking.

i'm with you troy.

I guess if you spend all of your time in a pool hall you have to find something to do inbetween racks. I wish my pool hall would let me quit my job and adopt me. Before long I'd be able to balance a cue on my nose while running out:p
