Can you ID this tip?

Hey Gang!

This tip was on my Jim Buss sneaky when I bought it a few weeks ago. I'm not usually a big fan of layered tips but for some reason I like this one. Any of you guys have any idea of what it might be? The tip is at least 6-7 years old if that helps at all.

Given the possible age of the tip and the uneven layering (from what I can see in the picture) it looks like you have a Kopi Luwak tip. Very expensive and very rare.

As you know, Kopi Luwak originates in the Sumatran village, where the beans are grown, lives a breed of wild tree cat. These cats eat the beans, digest them and then... defecate.

Sometimes these cats eat milk duds and after they defecate it creates this tip. Needless to say, it's a very soft tip. :)

I personally play with a Kopi. They are now outlawed due to the rarity of the cats. I had a guy that knows a guy, that has a cousin smuggle me one outta there for a cool $125. What a deal! He had it stuck in a cavity for more than a week. If caught with a Kopi, you get caned. I can get you one from Zuwakiiiilega for say, $175? Money order only.

You have it backwards. The cats were encouraged to eat as many LePro tips as possible, and then subjected to chemically induced constipation. Its this process which compresses and fuse the layers together. Milkduds is what you get when the cat has diarrhea.

Hideo Moori while vacationing in Indonesia came across these while playing 3 cushion billiards. He balked at the high cost, and vowed to make an affordable version using domestic japanese cats. This is the basis for the rumour that Moori was so secretive of his process, he didn't even show his wife, as she was a member of PETA and would object.

Shortly after Moori brought out their layered tips, all the cats were retired due to the SARS scare and he had to make the tips using a different process. This is why people complain that the 3rd generation tips aren't as good as the first.

Wow, I never read anything about this in my Mueller catalog. I never knew you really have to know
somebody on the inside to get the primo stuff. Thanks AZ.
 
An educated guess would say Moori. The leather color on the crown dictates that much. While the pics don't make them look so...the layers are pretty straight. The extra dark sides make me think its been darkened at some point with a marker and has since worn or been cleaned off leaving the leather dark. So....Moori would be my guess.
Edited to add: 2nd choice would say Tiger M or H.:smile:

Well I brought my new to me Blackcreek to my local cue repair guy for a new tip. I looked through everything he had and I think I agree with Kevin on the fact that it's a Tiger Hard. I looked at every Moori and every other tip he had and the Tiger Hard matched it almost perfectly.

I decided to go with a Tiger Medium so we'll see what happens. :thumbup:
