Can you masse with an LD shaft?

Gonna start working on my masse here at home and was just wondering if anyone masse's with an LD shaft or if its not worth the trouble, before I go pounding away on my 200$ shaft and kamui tip. I know its damn near impossible to try and jump with them but what about masse?

They work fine for the masse. However I have been scared to use them for the very biggest masse shots...I would rather take my chances with a solid piece of maple..

For me, a regular shaft gives me a lot more feel with a half masse shot. i really don't mess with full masse shots as they are such a low percentage it isn't worth it to me.

Depends on what you are talking about.... For the artistic masse shots and the stuff you see on youtube like the jump masse drawbacks... you are basically going to destroy a low deflection shaft over time and it isn't even the proper tool.

The masse cues are around 24-26 ounces and the shafts have a high end mass. Which is why you see some with metal ferrules.....

For general use Masse shots like around an intervening ball... the LD shaft will be just fine but you cannot just jack up and let the cue push the ball out along the shot line you have to shoot down and angle towards where you want it to run to.....

Masse with OB-1

I used a OB-1 as my player for 18 months before I went back to plain wood. Not slamming OB just woke up one day and started back with wood and there you go. But that OB-1 would masse so good I basically lost that shot in my arsenal. Talking full masse not just scooting around balls. I just could not adjust to the way it worked. It did it too good! I tried taking some power off but it just didn't work for me. Maybe if I had played with lds all my life like some have I would have been fine. Crown Cues in Okla. makes dedicated masse cues and maybe others do also. Not too expensive as I recall. OB cues are great people and stand behind their product.

In my cue collection.

I have used my 314.2 for Half and Full Masse shots. I even jump with it when its close to needing the tip replaced. I hope you can find what our looking for. I have thought about buying a specific Masse cue.

Never thought I could not masse with a 314z and have been doing it for years. You can go length of table around a ball half way up table and hit or pocket another ball. No problem for me. I don't know how many times I have played this and similar shots, probably 100 or so anyway with no damage to the cue.

Same thing with the short jacked up shots. I am no trick shot artist and the shaft probably would not take that kind of forces. But for shots in the normal course of play the Z2 works great. i have the standard long 11.75 mm (?) shaft on a fairly heavy 20 oz Mottey cue.

You can masse with them but...

If you masse with an LD shaft it will start curving immediately so you hav e to make sure you give the shot more room to go around the ball.

The reason for this is with a regular shaft there is squirt which pushes the cue ball out.

Yes you can masse with an LD shaft.

I use the Tiger X Pro and have a little more trouble with masse than I did with a conventional shaft, or with my friends 314. Like mentioned above, it will not push the ball out on the target line. You have to adjust for that by giving the intervening ball a wider berth.

I have found that the angle of the cue with respect to the table can be used to determine how far down table the CB travels before it arcs due to the massé stroke, the offset on the CB determines how big an arc it takes.

I can massé from a rail out to center table (short) back to the rail and at least back to center table <again> with a 341-1.

very wise. i feel the same. i treat my ld like a baby.... it is for "playing" but if i wanna fly a ball off the table playing one hole, stuff like that, i pick up a house cue or screw together my jump cue.

they masses, just not as effectively (not as much anyway).

I can definitely play a "messy" shot with an LD shaft...come to think of it, I don't even need an LD shaft for that! :o

(Not sure this helped!)

I can masse decently, but not as well as I could with a regular shaft. Sometimes I want more deflection to clear a blocking ball, but I know I cant get enough. Comes into play more when the blocking ball is close to the cue ball. Otherwise, its no harder to judge when the cue ball will break towards the direction of the spin.

thanks for the info guys, guess its just me. Masse's have never been my strong suit and adjusting to the ld shaft on top of that makes it trickier. ill get it. Just gotta get slamming away. :)
