Can you play good pool with any Cue?

You leave home and forget your cue, can you play good with any cue? Some people claim they cannot shoot good without their personal cue! Thanks for your input.

Lock N Load.

Yes, it's not a problem, but I'll play still better with a cue I like and am familiar with. I simply enjoy myself more with the latter, concentrating more fully on the game itself, less guesswork.

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

That's it...I've had enough.

American cue makers have produced most of the finest cues ever made.
A lot of passion, intelligence, and hard work was used to make these 'Strads'.
A great cue is a magic combination of tolerance and strength.

Anyone who thinks a player can play his game with a 'wallabuska'...IMO
a- doesn't play very good
b- thinks AJ Foyt could win the Indy with a Ford Focus
c- thinks Tiger (in his prime) could win a Major with a cleek, a mashie,
and a 'drug store' golf ball

..a cue doesn't have to be 'pimp' to be great..one of my best cues is
a 'tweaked' Joss sneaky pete...and a good tip is a must.

it is the arrow AND the Indian

..and road players who played off the wall, when they ran into a 'player',
found what it was like to be the toughest guy in the girl's school-yard

I play with them all the time. But, then I can't make a ball. My Sneaky Pete is designed to look just like a house cue, even down to the name and logo! He, he, he. Thanks for your input, PT109.

Not sure what you're objecting to here.
Cornbread was one of my favorite players and I'm batting 1,000 taking
a piece of the center.Seen him borrow cues, but I've never seen him play
an equal with a house cue.

Hell, I've gambled using a slip-on tip...but probably could have won with
anything that was longer than it was wide.

regards
pt..<..who has played often with house cues...but never when his bank-roll
was in jeopardy.

A bit contradictory there, Lock.....
...a sneaky-pete can look bad and play like a magic wand.
I'm saying a player needs a good cue to play his best game....
...it doesn't have to look good.
Had a $40 snooker cue in the late 70's...turned down $800 for it 'cause
it was a good cue.

regards
pt..<..who hopes all his opponents play 'off the wall'....
...or I'll buy them a cue with a ramin wood shaft

Be nice if Jim Buss commented on this subject...
...I see he is in the house.

..a rocket scientist who makes cues may enlighten us

The original question wasn't about a players "best game" it was whether or not one can play "good" with any cue. In my world "good" does not mean "best".

I did not say I played with my cue! I play with a house cue all of the time. I do not even bring my cue into the pool hall. Unless I am showing it to someone. I just mentioned that I had a Sneaky Pete. And it was made with house cue logo on it. Thanks again for your input, PT.

I try to be nice all the time, even when the Haters come out! People seem to hate for you to say something nice about a person!!!! Perhaps, you can tell me why? Thanks again for your input.

I play pretty close to my speed with any cue (within reason). But I am more comfortable playing with my own & seem to do a lil better overall due to consistency. It's built to my spec with everything I like so it feels right, fits well, and this means minimal distraction from it. Playing with cues with soft tips, whippy shafts, dead feel, too heavy or too light, improper balance for me, etc. all feel alien & uncomfortable to me. That knocks a few percentage points off my speed, but not enough to prevent me from running a rack when it's open. The most notable places it affects my game is speed control & spin control, so the finesse shots aren't as easy as they are with the cue I know & am comfortable with.

+1.
Well said.

Try working a few games with a good house cue, tell yourself you can do this with no problem! At first just hit balls by yourself. Do this about an hour a day for a week and then tell me how you feel! Thanks for your input.

I do switch cues once in a while when i hit a flat spot and that does help somewhat. If I bust out a cue that is a retired player that i used for a year or longer i can adjust back to it quickly.

Its not often I can just pick up a cue thats new to me and play any where close to me speed. weather im in stroke or out of stroke(as is the case right now).

Funny how that works, thanks for the advice

I'm so used to my cue. The shaft, the balance, the weight.. its hard to play the same with another cue. Which is sad because I play bad with every cue!

LnL:

pt109 was nice; you just misread his post. The "Be nice if ..." is the Canuckian "short-hand" way of saying "It would be nice if ..." He was merely stating a "hinting" type of question to bring out Jim Buss, who you probably (or should!) know is an exceptional cue maker, that worked for NASA at one time.

Insert the two words "It would ..." in front of pt109's first sentence, and it will all make sense after that.

Yes. But can I win the cash with any cue? Depends on whom I am playing. If I am playing someone and I have the edge, I might get them into the game playing with a house cue and still torture them.

Lock & Load....you alright in my books.
I think you might be the Will Rogers of AZ...(who, as you probably know,
never met a man he didn't like)

but AZ is where we can exchange ideas and concepts...doesn't have to
be personal...
I am passionate about fine cues....and anyone who says they can get out
with a 2x4 and a bottle cap for a tip..I'll call 'em on it....:angry:::angry:
ok, sometimes it's personal

so glad we could have this chat:smile:

It was for someone else on here, that made a remark about me shutting up! You and I have been friends since I first became a member of this great forum. Nice to chat with you also. Some people on AZB do not like for a person to say anything good about people.
