Im going to try.. lol... Im board.. so here go's!

Stroke, now thats something we need to talk about, so this is what I ask, if you wish to participate, Grab your cue, Grip it as tight as you can, hit a ball, then gradualy loosen up (while hitting balls) to find where you need to be..

Now I want you to open your mind, forgetabout everything, nothing matters, when you close your eyes, you mind must be quiet. this is the first step. Dont go anyfurther until you can do this.

And remember, keep your eyes closed, set, or lay down, we are going to prepare you for your next match.

Once your mind is clear, you need to brethe, concentrate on this, we need to take your attention and focous beyond random thoughts.

Now contract and relax every muscle you can 10 times.

Concentrate on the air entering your body, if a thought enters your mind, try to push it out and away, let your brethe expel it.

I want you to Visualize the cue ball, and your cue, both seperate, align them in your mind, as if you were about to shoot a stop shot. Dont force it, let it happen, focous on your breathing, visualize this for as long as you can........

now you play what game? what is your favorite? 8 ball?

once you can connect the cue ball and your cue, as your looking at a shot, look a little further, see the rack, and where you want to strike it. all the time your focous is on your breathing, think of the air going in as a positive action, all the missed balls, are comming out when you exhale.......

I go into this more tommorow, right now Im going to go hit some balls.

stroke the shot, back swing as you brethe in, forward as you brethe out, let this set your rythem, like while playing a guitar, you can double an tripple the rythem, but you must first have a constant and steady beat to go from. This is your Key when you want to enter dead stroke, after you mind and body is relaxed, all you need to do while playing is Brethe, let this set the tone, this is your Rythem, this opens the door for you to become who you really are.

The ability to erase all thought and concentrate on the air you brethe has for centuries been the key to many things, pool is no differnt. Yes, I was having some fun with ya, but, did you do it? could you visualize the things I ask? if you try you can. and if you can do that that you can do anything.

There is no Magic not really, if anything its you, your are the magic, you can do things no Animal on this planet can do, you have a gift... If you learn to use it, you may forget pool, you may never get any better, but you will go places and do things you never thought possible.

If my fun bothers you, ahhh, whatever, I stick some truth in my BS, and who knows it might work for someone, but thats not the point, the point is you never loose a stroke, you loose the spirit to compete. So get off your butt, grab your cue, head to the hall, and find what dead stroke really is. some things contained here within are keys to me playing dead stroke. you find whitch ones..

Dont say I never gave ya anything, at least you have somone to talk about right? lol

No. It's something that happens while playing. You can explain what it feels like to you, but you can't teach it. It just happens, that's why it's so hard to duplicate.

Ok, but why dont you let me try? did you read my intital post? no, you scanned it, because you knew it was BS. right? well, let me explain, when I enter dead stroke, I do it on command, whitch really isnt that often, I have no one to play on a regular basis, I mean it takes the fun out of it for me, it really does.

When I want Dead Stroke, I brethe, I match my stroke to the natural rythem, then I double it. this is where Im happy. This alone must be worth a couple million, (pay me NOW!! please?,,,,hahaha) anyways, this alone will not make you super man, or ( Wonder woman) but it does help..

you are going to do this right? you pretty much volenteered, so appease me... now let me continue..

When you are going through your eye pattern, do not flash your eyes, smoothe and steady your eyes go back and forth, whitch is also in rythem with your breathing..

give me honestly 10 balls, exactly as described and tell me this isnt working.. you wont be in dead stroke just yet but your headed that way.

First do the lil song and dance in the original post, then shoot 10 balls this way, come back, and tell me Im wrong, I'll shut up and admitt Im a dummy. but If you start to feel it comming, then Im going to take you a step further, and further, till you hit dead stroke, If I cant do it, ok.. bbut what if I did? you have to be honest, either way, and you must give me a 100% Prove me wrong! cool?

I love a challenge, please accept.

The Keys To Achieving Dead Stroke

Yeah, I read your post. I read it again just to make sure. This isn't a new concept, by any means. In all the years I've been around the game, I've only met one good player who used anything remotely like what you describe. I remember discussing stuff like this about thirty years ago. It works for some people, but not for everybody, and not all the time for most. I recently played some eight ball with some friends, just casual. I ran out almost every time I got to the table, not including from the break, my break is not good at this time. Was I in dead stroke? Not even close, but I played very well. That's not dead stroke. I think it would be very hard to achieve in eight ball because of having to rerack the balls just so. Same with nine ball. I think I was there in One Pocket when I ran 11 and out, but could not duplicate that play in subsequent games. I've been there in Straight Pool because the longer game allowed me to keep focused and maintain rythem. But, after missing, it was hard to get there again.
When you talk about dead stroke, just what are you referring to? I'm talking about simply executing, without having to conciously think about what I'm doing. I think you may be able to learn things that can help you to reach that point, but don't believe that it can be taught. If it could, we would have a bunch of champions and not be getting our asses handed to us by the Asians and the Europeans.

I guess it depends on a specific definition for "dead stroke". In pool school, we teach you to do all your thinking before you begin to get down on your shot. Make all your decisions beforehand, then clear your mind, get away from thinking, and just execute the shot.

Think it, Visualize it, Shoot it, repeat.

Nice explanation, David. I'm still not sure this can be taught.
Sure it can, he just taught it to you. The hard part is teaching yourself.

Freeing your mind of daily clutter is the first step in preparing for anything stress related. Have you ever been in a locker room before a football game? It's a quiet as a church. How many times have you practiced a shot over and over and over, just to blow it in a match. You've prepared your body to respond but your brain is in the way. Watch Tiger Woods slow down his walk in the fairway, he's slowing down his breathing, heart rate and mind by altering his pace.

Sorry if this came across as condescending, that is definitely not my intention. I believe SPINDOKTOR and POOLTCHR are right on the money, to unlock your greatest potential, you have to free your mind and your game will follow. And that can be taught, but you have to give 100% to the process.

Right thats a great routine, but let me explain, this is something else, this is a state of mind.....

Have you ever been near an accident, where time seems to stand still? Slow motion, I remember when I was a kid, I Raced Motocross, and we were on our way to a big race, it was sunny, sunday, and all was well.. We came to a sharp turn, and traffic was backed up, well we stop, and get out to stretch our legs.. then it hapened, I'll never forget this, a cream colored vette, sideways heading right for us... he must have been doing a 100 easy, but everything was happening in slow motion, as the car was sliding, the back tires finaly got some traction, and sent him head on into the guardrail, thankfully he wasnt hurt, noone was, and we all experianced the same thing. Well what in the world has this to do with pool?

hmmm, this is interesting to me, I believe we all shared a mental cue, or is it que? anyways, the state of mind, I wasnt scared, none of us was, we were all just confused really. From this I have been toying with the idea, that like the slow motion effect we can tease our mind into doing some amazing things... The action of breathing has an effect, Im not sure how, or why, but I do know many people believe this and do practice this. Meditation I believe?

Over the years I have studied this, and have tried many things, but never for the sole purpose of playing pool until now. I dont believe your magicaly going to pocket balls, it may seem like magic but its just you, in a hightend state of mind.

What if you had a way to enter dead stroke at will, through controlled breathing, you can brethe right? it is healthy. isnt it? then all you need is the right formula for something to happen. So I created a routine for your mind... lol.. through relaxation, and breathing you can prepare yourself to enter this state of mind... once your mind recognizes the metal pictures you have imagined and exercised with its like a switch.

When you finaly found what works it becomes easier each time, like any routine right?

Let me go a step further, when your tired, and sleepy, If you have the endurance this is when you will play the best, WHY? your body becomes relaxed, your eyes target longer, you brethe deeper, you just cant keep pace long because your mind is telling your body its time to sleep. At what point did this happen? it hits you suddenly then you maintain this feeling until you do what is ask of you, you sleep. well entering dead stroke is just the same, except instead of needing sleep your mind wants that ball... and its going to continue wanting that ball because you have also trained your body to enter a routine everytime you step up to the table, right? so in theory if you can stick to a routine you could have dead stroke, from the moment you grab your cue till you put it away..Or untill your Brain says now you need sleep, or you need food, your thirsty, or you need to potty....lol...

Understandable? did I explain clear enough that you can see this isnt your average routine? and that its differnt from what your teaching? Im not bashing you, I think what your teaching is important as I said, but thats not exactly what I call dead stroke.

Wheeeeew, you know it is very hard to explain this, what the hell was I thinking?

Richard Bach does an outstanding job on this topic in his (non-fiction) book Stranger to the Ground , imo.

Id like to read that book, for sure...

Since there is so much material out there on Dead Stroke, Apparently, then I suppose there is nothing more to talk about, I havent read any of the Books people have mentioned, Honestly I dont read pool related material at all.. Well, Banking with the Beard is the exception..

I wanted to show what I think Dead Stroke is, and Possibly how you can experiance this, if you havent..... The hidden agenda is to get you to the table. that is what matters most.
