What were they thinking?

CCS Westerns May 25-29th
VNEA Vegas May 26 -June 4th

The Westerns for the most part have been at the end of April - beginning of May in the past.

I predict a low turnout.

busy time out there, sml, bca, ccs, vnea. only so many dates. seems strange though that they wouldn't look a little closer.

If the CCS was going to cause a conflict I would have assumed he would do it to the BCAPL.

This won't help the CCS or the VNEA.

The VNEA event in Vegas already sucks, the turn out is extremely low and very Canadian heavy. Now there is a strong chance that players from western Canada don't go to the VNEA event in Vegas? If that takes place put a fork in them because they are done.

On the other hand if enough people from Western Canada decide to go to Vegas and the VNEA instead the CCS tournament will have low entries and people will then bail on the domino effect and go to Vegas instead. That could in effect destroy the CCS Westerns.

Either way, the VNEA event sucks, and the CCS league system is tiny with few teams, even in Calgary where it is based. The CCS and ACS should have made nice with the BCAPL and worked together at the sale of the league system. Instead they dug their heels in and screwed everything up in the classic dog eat dog mentality of pool promotion.

acs nationals

I find this interesting. ACS has scheduled their National event in Vegas to conflict with the BCAPL nationals. The ACS overlaps into the BCAPL by 4 days or so.

They have pled 'forgettfullness' but I don't believe it. Our dates have been set for 3 years or so.

Maybe this is a pattern -seems too much to be coincidence.

It is a shame when one pool group forces controversary between different groups.

This is just putting the players between a rock and a hard spot. They can no longer play in more events.

I agree the ACS should not have drawn the hardline that they did - all they did was put the players in the middle. Their largest event (last year) had 128 entries. It was Men Open Singles nine ball. BCAPL had 1,300 in our Men Open Singles.

Their event is about 1/6 the size of the BCAPL - they had about 1,000 people and their total 2010 payout was only $130,000.

There is not a very good excuse for scheduling on top of someone else.

Hey Mark,

This happened to me last year, and my team was very upset with me. They booked the "Canadian National CCS" event on top of the Super Billiards Expo...I didn't find out until after the season was over, and had to pull out at the last minute (as the anchor)...As you know I have been out of work for 2 years so when I have an opportunity to do so I have to take it ...they understood, but they weren't happy...hope it doesn't happen again this year!

I rather have best go to the westerns then go all the way to Las Vagas.

+++++++++++++++++++SPECIAL MESSAGE - 2011 DATES+++++++++++++++++++

For those wondering why the 2011 tourney is a month later than nomal, here's why:

1. April Week 2 - No go. The ice in the Acadia Rec Centre won't be out until April Week 3.
2. April Week 3 - No go. CCS Toronto Canadians (normal Easter dates)
3. April Week 4 - No go. Acadia Rec Centre booked with another customer.
4. May Week 1 and 2 - No go. ACS Vegas Nationals (new dates)
5. May Week 2 and 3 - No go. BCAPL Vegas Nationals

This left us with:

1. Finding another site (came close but no cigar).
2. Cancelling the tourney for one year (considered but ruled out).
3. Selecting the earliest available dates (May Week 4) at the Acadia Rec Centre (which we did).

The CCS realizes that there will be an overlap with the first weekend of the VNEA Vegas Nationals but it should be noted that there are no CCS leagues in Western Canada that are dual sanctioned with the VNEA.

No such conflicts exist for 2012 or 2013. The CCS 2012 Westerns are already booked for April 27th to May 1st.

The CCS Westerns have been a great tourney over the last 8 years and with the support of all the western CCS leagues we don't see that changing. Let's Play Pool!

Is the westerns still going?because I am planing to go this year to try my luck and have fun.

Well, it's official. Both my teams won Vegas trips. I won't be going to Calgary this year.

It's just too much of a conflict.
