John has an extreme style...he is left-eyed and right-handed...
....and his chin goes lower than the cue.
He developed a lot of pain in his neck and his shoulder....tried keeping his head higher...
...like his father, but it left him dissatisfied.
When he plays left, it doesn’t hurt any more.
....and he’s getting better.
I think it’s going to be another success story like that black one pocket player...
...can’t recall his name right now.
As a western Canadian guy, I can say that this event is pretty much a joke all the way across the country with the exception of Toronto. Every year the turnout gets lower and lower and the CBSA(event promoter) refuses to evolve at all.
This years mens events, hosted in the largest city in the country, drew 27 and 32 players respectively while the womens events drew a grand total of 4 entries for each event.
The results of this event, every year, simply show which Toronto guys decide to show up because virtually nobody travels to this so-called national championship due to terrible payouts and awful scheduling.

If Toronto wasn’t hosting the Canadians, it would no longer exist.
...you, as a Westerner, should be aware of that.
And Jim Wych and John White are looking to take it to a new level.
For the snooker next year, they found a 10g sponsor.....

I'm from Vancouver and see Toronto as a logical choice. At least they play on proper equipment. AB/Sask/Man suffer from the same BB affliction that our American cousins do (at least in some states). The answer to the issue is have a better feeder structure. Each Province should hold qualifiers and Provincial champs to go represent their patch. 10 Provinces x 2 will fill half the field.
Toronto is logical:
1. Biggest Population
2. Central in the bowling alley we call Canada
3. Great room with supporting owner
My suggestion for the Women would be to put them in with the Men. Top two finishers play off for title.

As a westerner, it's already as if the Canadians doesn't exist. The governing body of the CBSA does nothing to coordinate with the west(or any provinces other than Ontario and Quebec) and provides little to no benefit to us. We have had board members from out here in recent years and every bit of input they gave was brushed away by the old boys club in favor of keeping it their way.
It's great that they are finding sponsors for the snooker and I'm sure that the 20 players that show up for their events will love it but until they actually care about the NATION as a whole, it's really irrelevant.
There are a large number of REALLY strong players from the prairies and western provinces but they have been neglected by the CBSA for so long that they simply don't care about their events anymore.
In theory, Toronto is a fantastic choice but, in the real world, they have managed to draw almost nobody for a National championship event in a city with a population base of almost 6.4 million people(just in the GTA). You are absolutely correct that they need a feeder structure from the provinces but they do nothing to make that happen and applaud themselves for another fantastic event every year(even with garbage turnouts and provincial representation.)
We had a much better structure years ago because the provincial associations were stronger......Jim and John are working on that.
It’s true that there isn’t enough money to fly in for.
But Brady Gollan came in anyways...and took the snooker title back to the west...:bow-down:

Why hasn't someone started a thread on Morra switching hands? This is absolutely amazing. I've seen him play with his left and he's obviously very good with it but to switch permanently is on a whole different level.

During John's hiatus last year he continued to play in local events, but only left-handed. The issue on one of pain he feels due to his alignment (being cross dominant). He has now gone back to lefty. He beat some good Quebec pros in an event a little while ago.
This event will be a big test for him. He plays great lefty, but whether he can hang with the top pros lefty remains to be seen. I can say that he has approached this like he does all aspects of his game - with dedication and hard work. I see him practicing lefty for hours. If anyone can make the switch I think Johnny is the one to do it.
