please, this is by no mean a request or anything of the sort. I just just want to hear what other think "for research purposes"

after watching fridays match with Alex and Busty, does anyone think that a much better battle would of been had should the game of been played on the former table with the really tight pockets "only for the 8 ball" rather than the current one which led to a 100m dash rather than a 800m gladiator face-off

just asking, would you of rather see a battle or a run fest (as good as the run fest was)

Your metaphors are more mixed up than a Midol PMS pill in a man's body. 800m gladiator face-off? What the hell is that!? ;)

To answer your question...
Why is it always a question of one or the other? This wasn't the last time for all eternity that two people are ever going to play pool. Both types of matches have value and are fun to watch. I equate Friday night to two thoroughbreds running... simply running... and watching to admire the grace that they posses. Tight pockets or "take what you make" rules are like a steeplechase: harder and more challenging but not as graceful.

YES... Definitely... without any doubt what so ever.....

Better, 8-ball – MUCH better 1 pkt ---- more interesting 10-ball....

I understand that this is the set-up that is used in all pro-tournaments... then the question is what is so special ?

In a head to head challenge type match... the harder the conditions the better...

But it ain’t going to happen .. and I am starting to have serious doubts if I will be purchasing many further TAR match ups...

OR with this equipment.. the LONG sets need to come back (again this is just me ... and if you really enjoy this set up... God Bless... and I am happy for you)

Personally, I thought the run fest was amazing. Truly showing top players potential at that game. I'd rather see that.

Keep it as it is!

I like the run fest too. I could see tight pockets in 8 Ball, but I dont think is NEEDS to be done.

All that need to happen is more people wathing TAR so they can make more mony, put on more matches and get more player involved.

I think it's too much of a pain in the ass to switch rails just for one out of three sets.
Pretty sure they'll only consider one set of rails for all three games.

I've been enjoying the runouts and packages. I'm baffled that anyone thinks tight pockets are more interesting. Players rattling balls is more interesting? Players shooting scared on every ball over 5 feet is strategic and fascinating?

They're pros, they're still going to TRY to run out. They're not going to duck just because the pocket's tight. They want to believe they can make that ball, and they want to prove it to the audience. So forget the idea that tight pockets will lead to amazing safety battles. We've already seen in the past what they lead to:

The shooter tries to run out despite the pockets, randomly misses in the middle of the rack, and then the other guy takes his gift.

krupa you're an idiot im my opinion.

thanks to the other.

@nb92: I hear what you are saying, but i will still buy the matches that i'm interested in.
@Icon: Yes the run was was good, i think i mentioned that but also there is no question about how good these players are or if they can run racks, I just feel like slightly tougher equipment would of made it a different game an i wonder what it would of been like.
@King: yes i did enjoy the runs and it's prob not needed but just in the same manner the use of the 10" table to challenge the pros has come about i feel like maybe one down on the pocket size would really bring out the best "so to say" in these guys. maybe not the super tight ones they last had on but the size prior.

once again and just to be clear I ENJOYED THE MATCH and this only applies to FRIDAYS MATCH/8 BALL, if your intension is to come out and be a jerk then feel free to post and prove you are. thanks king, 92 and icon so far waiting to see a few other opinion on this.

Most of the time when 2 top players match up for a good chunk of cheese at a poolroom they do so on the tight table...just saying. Johnnyt

The tight table...,

Your right that the Pro's match up on the tight in most pool halls.., but not the gaff table. When the pockets are so tight that Busta or Earl cant run out then somethings wrong.

Ernesto D set up the tables at Hard Times and then couldnt get out during the tournament on the same tables he set up!

It was no fun to watch, everybody struggled, to many missed shots..., I mean it is possible to set the table up so that no one can get out.., 3'' pockets, who wants to watch that!

My opinion is the numbers of buyers has not changed in any significant number one way or the other. I personally couldnt stand the tight pockets. We tried it because some people said it would be better. It didnt result in more people buying and I think it just made great players play a different style of game.

If I had a nickel for every time this happened......I would have some nickels:

Thursday before TAR match.....
Me: So how do you like the tight pockets?
Player: Plays awesome. Love it.

Sunday after TAR match is over.....
Player: That table is brutal. You should change it.

There will always be those who love tight pockets I am just not one of them and if all things are equal then I am going to work on doing matches that I enjoy watching.

This thread title is the truest statement in the history of the human species.

no complaints from me

@JCIN: you are right, super tight pockets don't make for an enjoyable game. Now maybe Alex and Busti just made it look to easy "being the A player that they are, lol" but it made me ask myself, was it toooo easy and what would "I" of prefer.

I guess the ultimate test would be this weekend. but if i had to chim in on anything about that "and please JCIN i am not trying to start anything here" it would be to make the race longer, these guys make it look like a 9" bar table.

p.s.
hope i don't have to miss any of this weekend

The 8 ball between Alex and Busty was probably the best 8 ball I've ever seen. It was exciting, and entertaining to see two guys play absolutely lights out. With the tight pockets I think it would have changed things and made it a slower, less impressive match. I like the standard pockets, it cracks me up that people are now calling the 4.5" pockets buckets, watching pros rattle balls is not entertaining to me.
