Carbide lathe insert ...

After trying the first number and it not working I googled the company, got the corp. number, called them and asked if it was a good part number. They said yes and they had 110 of them in stock however they don't sell to the public. I asked where I could locate them and they said there were dealers all over the country including MSC, J&S, Enco and so forth. He said to just give them this part number and the dealer could cross reference it.

I'm very excited myself. It's a whole, whole lot easier buying something like this already made than trying to grind a carbide one that would perform in a like manner.

Some positive rake cermit inserts, also cut wood really well.
I am not sure if you can get them singular.
These have a .008 inch nose radius.

They have a good tool life and are sharp enough for most corners.
I mainly use the dcmt shape, it is about a 50 deg included angle insert.

how long do they stay sharp?

I have used them for over a year, and have NEVER dulled one doing cue work! I have chipped them when I was too lazy to change the insert to the standard carbide for use on hard steel. But, I never saw one that got dull. I know it sounds like BS but it is true. Like I said before I paid 5.53 each for them just a couple days ago from the supplier that Willee gave you guys the number for. They had four more in the box left, and they had more of the same style in other shapes and sizes of inserts.
They are no way the same as the Harbor freight. I used to use that same HF insert, and several other brands. They all cut steel fine but not wood. The photo that willee took was ok but unless you handle one in person you really cannot appreciate it. They appear to have a severely raised edge like a honed wood chisel all the way around the perimeter of the insert. They are sharp enough to cut you if you were foolish enough. The cermit insert above is a little bit like it, but way less of an edge. I never saw any other insert like these.

wow.i always heard they were good but expensive and wear out very fast.over a year is shocking.

> I bought a set at HF on sale for 11.99 a couple months ago. Mine are the 1/4 shank. I've only used the E style for cutting a small groove in steel, and used the R style for a .005 finish cut on steel,so the jury is still out. I haven't had a chance to use them on anything for cue work, just school.

The Machinery's Handbook says the life of an uncoated carbide insert on steel is typically 15 minutes worth of actual cutting time. These should last a LONG time cutting leather, wood, and most ferrule materials. Tommy D.

reason i asked is that i use the regular style carbide bits.i sharpen them to a point on both angles.they cut well but i usually need to sharpen them every month at least.it is tough to get the angle perfect in the begining.i hear about guys using them just like they come without sharpening them, but they don't make a very good shoulder that way.

Happy Monday!

Not everyone hates Mondays:smile:
Talked to the right person and they offered to send me (2) FREE OF CHARGE JUST TO TRY OUT!!

Not bragging here, just reporting EXCELLENT Customer Service. Thought of asking for a sample (@ $9-10 bucks a piece who would just give -em away?) but this guy read my mind! Have two coming in the mail tomorrow-and from what I am reading- should be ALL I need for quite some time!
I'll keep you posted...
Thanks Willie for the original post

Where? I don't need freebies, i'll buy them. Of course free is great, but I want some regardless. Where can I get them right away, and it be the right inserts?

I don't need "freebies" either, but it was an excellent customer service "gesture".

I say "Gesture" because I have not received these yet- I am supposed to tomorrow. Once I have them in my possesion and verify that they ARE correct, I'll gladly provide you with the info.

I would suggest going to the Vendors listed in a prior post- J&L, Enco, MSC, Wholesale Tool, etc. in the meantime if you cannot wait...

1 piece as quoted is $9.70, and they want you to order 10pcs at a time.
The prior link shows them a little cheaper (PGS Supply), and I don't know if you can get just one @ a time from them?

ToolMex is not accepting "new" customers as was told to me, so you cannot buy directly from them unless you are an "exhisting customer".

TC GT-32.52.AK-H01 is the description, this does you no good when cross referencing the ToolMex item number-
Use their item number #6-TCG-3222 and that'll get you there.

Neither MSC nor Enco could cross the number for me. The number Willee gave I got a voice mail which was never returned. I called Toolmex again yesterday and she gave me three places to call that could cross their number. I had success withe the first which was TNS at (419) 866 5507. Their cost were 7.50 each with a minimum of 10. I've now got 10 coming and the industry number is the one that you posted TC GT-32.52.AK-H01. He said that this insert has a radius of 1/32. Hope this helps if anyone is having trouble locating them.

Look at the part #'s starting with 32. You'll see that there are smaller radius' for that particular cutting style. I would think that the .008 radius would be about as much as you'd need for a DNP shoulder, IMHO.

As far as the original number, 6-TCG-3222 goes, I can only think that it's just an internal part number for Toolmex. I think it's easier to find what we're looking for by just doing a search for "TCGT 32 AK".

The TC part of the number is just the shape of the cutter. There are also some other shapes with the same AK cutting edge/chip breaker. FWIW.

Frank

I wasn't trying to be secretive, just didn't want to "jinx" myself is all- and them not being there last night, well- I just might have:confused:

Anyways. Here is what I did do:
I called MSC to cross reference the item number and "Millie" was very helpful as she conferenced us both with ToolMex. The ToolMex CSR suggested the freebies and I gladly accepted.

MSC does not stock them, but Millie did say they could get them from ToolMex, and drop-ship them directly from ToolMEx to me if I should need some in the future.
Millie is the one who quoted me the afore mentioned price/quantity.

Oh well, if it doesn't work out, can I purchase one from you?

Did you or anybody ever get any of these

I got some. They cut like a hot knife through butter.

Yes, mine arrived yesterday and I tried one out last night. It cuts very well making short ribbons in Maple and not tearing the grain what-so-ever.
