:: Carbon Fiber Tubes for Cue Case - By Yang Case ::

I have three cues that each cost me a minimum $1000. That much money does not come to me easily. I had to save up for it each time. You can call it overboard all you want, but I'll rest easier knowing the product of the time and money I invested is well protected.

Yes, I understand that but carbon fiber is known for its strength and its lightweight. I don't see how putting carbon fiber tubes in the case would substantially lower the overall weight of the case.

It is substantial when we are talking about using Carbon Fiber in the automotive industry. When applied you can save a substantial amount of weight. In my opinion, saving a pound or ounce, here and there, does not justify the cost where we are dealing with 500 to 1000lbs plus on a car.

It is real and not overboard at all.

You should be agreeing with me considering that you are a man for protection and "no frills and fluff."

I know you believe carbon fiber tubes are just that, unnecessary.

I doubt any of your cases offer less protection because you don't implement these tubes.

I doubt those tubes are pure carbon fiber. It looks more like the vinyl wrap stuff. Pure carbon fiber in that amount would be in the thousands. A 1x1 case would be in the thousands just because of the carbon fiber

Not true. Carbon tubes like this really aren't that pricey anymore, the cost has come down significantly in the last decade. I work in an industry that uses carbon extensively and it's amazing what you can get at reasonable prices these days.

Not to say they are cheap, but we're talking a few hundred, not thousands here. And that is in small quantities, if someone could buy them in large quantities then the cost would be a lot less.

Still, not sure the added cost is warranted in this application. Yah, they're light and strong but how many crushed PVC tubes have caused cue damage and how much lighter is the case really. The leather has a much bigger impact on weight than the tube selection.

I was going to reply to some of the other posters but you've pretty much typed what i want to express. Good quality PVC Tubes do excellent and more than sufficient job in protecting cues, and to date i've not heard of any one having damaged cues because a PVC tube case gave up on it. I honestly doubt any much or an weight savings when applied to cue case either.

So why did i go with Carbon Fiber tubes?

Firstly it's does not cost that much more and secondly when you consider the cost of a fancy fully tooled master piece the tube would be used into then it's really just about having the best of everything all put together.

Here's the case that these tubes were used in:

You don't know anything. CF is lighter and stronger than PVC. I have looked into them and the cost of having our tubes done in cf. I would do it if I could afford the setup costs and if I thought the market would bear it.

A case made with cf tubing will be stronger and the interior will be lighter.

Ive looked into carbon fiber tubes as well. Not worth the cost difference for any of the small gains you might get out of them IMO.
If you could get them for close to the same price as irrigation PVC, it could be a nice marketing gimmick.... :D

For me it's about getting the very best together at the right price. I think the tubes were priced right considering how fancy and high end the case is. I also believe there isn't much argument that carbon fiber is stronger than PVC.

Most importantly I see how cool it is to say I have carbon fiber tubed case :) so there's definitely some form of marketing there but with facts to back.

I think its sorta like Plastic Dashboards made to look like wood in cars versus Real Wood Dashboards. Doesn't affect car's performance, can't see from the outside, serves the same purpose, cheaper to replace than wood, probably last longer cos they don't really succumb to environmental elements and most plastic wood looking dash these days looks almost identical to wood. But you just won't expect plastic dash in high end cars. Gimmicky? Sure...but it's just cool for owners to know. There's always something about the feel good factor for owners for items that are considered luxury products.

Ofcourse it's just my $0.12 (after conversion of Chinese yuan to usd)

Agree with all the above. PVC tube does the same great job as the C.F. tube, rather is a marketing gimmick or not, when any case maker offers an option of PVC tube interiors or C.F. tubes interiors to any buyer is really up to the buyer themselves what they can afford. I'm sure most buyer would like to have the C.F tube interior because it sounds better when the option are presented. Me personally would like to have the C.F. tube interior regardless what the up charge is, you got me with the C.F. tube marketing gimmick :grin:

As for the Yang case are super lite as it is and I'm sure with C.F. Tubing will bring the weight down little more. Just let me know when the transparent case with C.F. tube gonna start. Also, please let Yang know I want my next case with C.F. in it.

I like Aliminium outer

Like the super Mac cases. Great bat too. Run over it with a car! Cool thread.
