You, sir, have forgotten more about the Howard Barretts of the world than I will EVER know! But I watched him play every day for a year when I was going to school in Tally-town in 74 and 75. And I learned one HELL of a lot from him! Plus, he steered Randy Brown and I around north Florida and into Georgie a few years later. Made us a ton of cheese. What a player. And what a story-teller. I had a world of respect for him.
We had an open table in my home room...the game was either poker pool or kelly pool..
....the rule was nobody could be barred,
So after a few months of applying my golf discipline to practicing on a snooker table..
...( I worked at a proshop since I was twelve)...I got too good for the regulars.
..so they told the owner that I wasn't old enough to play in it...age limit was 18...
...I was 17....so I didn't play in it for a while.
On my 18th birthday, I put my name in the game...
..well, they couldn't bar me, so everybody quit....I gave them the table back..
..never asked to play in it again.
The owner said it was the first time that ever happened.....
..."It's official, you're the champ."

Back in the day, local tournament... got to the hill first 8-5 against Mark Tadd..

I do not have the top stories like many folks here with professional ties, as I am only a amateur player who has played
in the VNEA League system for over 30 years. I have very fond memoriesat the tables, but, being inducted into the
C&N Sales Minnesota Hall of Fame in January of 2015 was a proud moment that was thrilling, especially to my parents.
Mom passed four months later on May 1st, 2015 and dad passed two weeks later on May 15, 2015. A day after dad's funeral,
I left for my 27th try at the VNEA World Championships in Las Vegas and won the World VNEA 8 ball championship in my classic
sportsman division. Certainly not the masters division, but some awfully great shooters from around the world.
It's funny, I was 54 years old at the time and my parents at about 80. Pool is a hobby, I really love it, my parents played a little and
could always share some sort of a pool story. May of 2015 was a celebration of two wonderful people.
Yeah, I did raise the trophy towards the heavens with a tear in my eye. I felt like dad, mom and I had this story all to ourselves, no matter the age.

You have good reason to be very proud! Of your parents and yourself. You are a winner in life and that's the most important thing. :clapping:
I agree. It was as great a moment as anybody else's highlight posted here. It reminded me that the first time I ever played pool it was with my dad.
