Has anyone ever tried a Carnauba Car wax on thier cue shaft? A guy I know puts them on his shafts he refinishes and man..they are great....nice and slick. I was just wondering if anyone else had tried it and what you think of doing that?

I use a carnauba wax on my shaft. Seems to work great. The stuff I got was a liquid but I'd recommend the paste. I've also heard good things about using floor wax made for the bowling alley. The carnauba burnishes easy with leather or cloth and feels slick as wet glass.:)

When I first researched this forum about using waxes,I was told to use 100% Carnauba paste wax, yellow, not the pink stuff.(dyes your shaft) Don't use the cleaner waxes. Wal-mart and Auto stores have some like this:http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.asp?T1=MEG+G7014J

I just bought the Q-wax: http://www.seyberts.com/products/Q_Wax-28-15.html ,its 100% Carnauba and I love it. If it ever goes empty,I am going to try the Butcher Bowling alley wax I've heard great things about;.http://www.bwccompany.com/bowlingalley.html

Hope this helps....Ron

I think its ok in dry conditions. I never use such but in high humidity I'll bet it gets sticky.

I use that same Q-wax, I like it a lot as well. One thing I would recommend is you have to burnish it pretty good. A lathe would be good as well, but not necessary. Here is a good thread about the butcher wax:

and here is another thread for waxing:

I thought about using my carnu wax for my car on my cue, but just scared lol

Good luck.

Chino, q-wax has carnuba in it. and the Mothers carnuba brand you get for you car can be used on your cue without damage and will provide a super slick shaft if waxed correctly.

From what I've heard/read from the professionals on the forums is that Q-wax is pure 100% carnuba with no additives, alot of your cheaper car waxes at Wal-mart/auto stores have cleaners and chemicals in them for your car, you have to buy the good stuff online, where I live anyway. I couldn't find anything that was recommended by cuesmiths,so I ordered the Q-wax online.

I use the q-wax also, but Mothers did sell a wax made soley of carnuba and I have used it with great results...it has been a while tho':grin-square:

Thats what I had heard about Mothers and it lasts forever,I couldn't find it either. I remember it was everywhere back in 96ish when I used to detailed vehicles. I will try the Butchers next,I haven't heard anything bad about it. This Q-Wax last forever for how sale it was...lol

I used the "Mothers" liquid carnauba wax. Works fine. I just didn't like how long it took for it to dry. The Bowling Alley wax may also take awhile to dry. As for carnauba getting sticky in humid climates I live in Louisiana (we invented humidity) and a good hard rub with a cloth or leather (I like a chamois from the auto detailing section of WALly world MART:grin:) take care of any stickiness.

Not as bad as you, but,I'm with you. Beach on on side and marsh lands on the other, plus my hands sweat bad. I try anything not to wear the hand panty, but sometimes I have to break it out.

I use Mothers Carnuba Car wax on my shafts then give them a very good burnishing ... Some of the smoothest shafts I have ever had.

You aren't waxing a car. No need to let it dry. Just rub a fair amount until your shaft heats up a bit then rub with a clean soft cloth.
For those of you who may have no wax...take a large square of ordinary wax paper and fold it up wax side out then rub it onto your shaft until it heats up & the wax transfers...then rub with a clean soft cloth.
