Carolina Women's Billiard Classic

Thanks for the info on the redraw, Tina, and congrats on a great tournament. I noticed two names missing, so I guess Jenn gets Allison in the next round.

Honestly, 17th in her first event isn't bad for Pan. Tracie is an excellent player, and although Pan outplayed her in that one Ladies Spirit Tour event, this doesn't qualify as a major upset.

Celebrated young stars like Pan Xiaoting, Wendy Jans, Kim Ga Young, Anna Kostanian, and Jasmin Ouschan, all of whom debuted on the WPBA as teenagers, have traditionally come in with solid, but unspectacular play. Only a llittle experience stands between all of them and great success. We shall see whether this is Kostanian's breakout tournament shortly.

So, if you write about Pan's perfromace, make sure you note that even those arriving with maginificent credentials usually need a little expereince before they succeed in WPBA play. Pan has every right to be satisfied with her effort, which included beating one of the WPBA seeded players in Melissa Herndon.

Thanks. I'm waiting for the exact score.

I expect Xiao Ting Pan, Ga Young Kim, and Jennifer Chen to do better in the Amway World Championship. I will try my best to keep everyone posted on the result. It is starting on 1 March in Taipei.

There will be 48 players competing in the Amway. From the US, we have Jennifer Baretta, Melissa Herndon, Tiffany Nelson, Jeannie Seaver, and Monica Webb.

Wish them all the best of luck.

I will try my best to post some pictures of this WPBA event on my site later on tonight.

Thanks, Steve.

Allison is so powerful that she has an extreme lead.

does anybody else know the results of the final 8?
I have no doubt that Allison and Karen fill out the
2 spots among the final 4.
I would like to know who they are gonna play in the semi?
what about the match between Jeanette and Fisher?

Thanks a lot Steve for keeping us posted.
guess you relly can't expect too much from the WPBA
at this point.

Anyone with further updates is greatly appreciated.

Thanks yuanmuqiuyu,
Just a note of thanks to you for picking up on that fact!

I've been a supportive fan of Tracie Hines since '04.

I believe Tracie & Jimmy Hines are two of the best people I've ever met.

Wade Crane said to me, " When Tracie wins her first WPBA event the rest will come easy."

I watched Tracie in an action match several months ago,
Tracie was down 8 games, Tracie turned it around & went up 8 games. The bet was adjusted, coin moved back to 5, she moved it to 8 on her side. Bet adjusted, Tracie moved her coin to 11. She was playing a male player she was not supossed to beat; but, SHE DID!!!

Tracie has more come back heart than any player I've ever seen!!!

AZ home page, Click on tours/tournaments, Click on SEAL tour. Read the results.

Due to health problems I have to back down from supporting Tracie. I'm sorry Tracie! I'll be in touch.

TRACIE needs a new sponser, will some one step up?

If so send me a PM, I will forward to Tracie.

"Have a nice day",
Lamar

Well done to Tracie, she certainly seems to be a fighter!

Well done to Pan Xiaoting on making her primary objective of reaching the top half. Just 3 more to go! I'm sure she'll learn a lot from this event and should come back even stronger. She has done well to have gotten as far as she has with very little tournament experience. She's getting a ton of it now...and soon the World Champs :D

It will be Allison Fisher vs Kelly Fisher and Karen vs Monica this afternoon.
Sorry I don't have scores from last night.

1) Is Allison's big lead in the points race for #1 insurmountable, or will Karen make a run at the #1 ranking?
2) After wins at the Challenge of Champions and WPBA Nationals, has Ga Young Kim closed the gap appreciably between herself and the Top 2?
3) Can Monica Webb, who enters the season ranked #3, coming off a great year, snap off her first WPBA title?
4) Will Kelly Fisher win an event this year?
5) How strong will Jeanette Lee come back from the surgery that caused her to miss the second half of the 2005 WPBA tour?
6) Will Tiffany Nelson continue her very strong form of 2005 and build on her breakout season?
7) How will the AZB Pros do this year? Can Jennifer Barretta and/or Melissa Herndon crack the Top 8 in the rankings? Can Sarah Rousey crack the Top 16 and become a seeded player? Can frequent AZB poster Tina Pawlowski become a force?
8) What other players are poised to have a big year? Shaw, Ellerby, Little, Hines, Sakai, seem likely candidates to make a move forward in the rankings.
9) How will Pan Xiaoting, who is not yet exempt into all events, fare in her first WPBA events?
10) Will the fact that some of the WPBA Players are also playing the IPT affect their play ---- for the better, for the worse, of not at all?

OK, here are the ten questions I posed on the forum on Wednesday, the day before this event began. Let's see what we've learned so far.

1) Is Allison's big lead in the points race for #1 insurmountable, or will Karen make a run at the #1 ranking? Still too early to say.
2) After wins at the Challenge of Champions and WPBA Nationals, has Ga Young Kim closed the gap appreciably between herself and the Top 2? Two and out suggests the answer is no. Allison and Karen nearly never lose to unseeded players, and never bomb like this. If Kelly Fisher wins even one match today, GY kim will drop to #5 in the rankings.
3) Can Monica Webb, who enters the season ranked #3, coming off a great year, snap off her first WPBA title? She looks awfully good so far, and has a chance to win today.
4) Will Kelly Fisher win an event this year? She looks good so far, and her 9 - 3 win over Jeanette suggests that today might possibly be her day.
5) How strong will Jeanette Lee come back from the surgery that caused her to miss the second half of the 2005 WPBA tour? Have to be encouraged by the fact that Jeanette reached the TV round in her first event back. Expecting big things soon.
6) Will Tiffany Nelson continue her very strong form of 2005 and build on her breakout season? Her solid 5th place finish seems to say yes.
Too early to answer first two questions, but Tina Pawlowski certainly got her season off to a nice start with a 17th place finish.
8) What other players are poised to have a big year? Shaw, Ellerby, Little, Hines, Sakai, seem likely candidates to make a move forward in the rankings. Too early to say, of course. Styill, of those indicated, Shaw (5th) made the biggest statement in NC.
9) How will Pan Xiaoting, who is not yet exempt into all events, fare in her first WPBA events? So far, so good. a solid 17th in her debut.
10) Will the fact that some of the WPBA Players are also playing the IPT affect their play ---- for the better, for the worse, of not at all. Too early to say.

With the last four consisting of the #1, #2, #3, and #5 ranked players, today should be memorable.

Wouldn't it be nice if Monica were to capture her first WPBA title today?

No. WPBA TV round matches are races to seven.

Thanks.

I think racing to 7 is efficient for TV broadcasting, but it's kind of unfair play, as the best players may not do well at the beginning.
