I got these from the United States Billiard Association website www.usba.net which has a directory of every room in the country with carom tables and has lots of other information as well.

3-cushion billiards is a fantastic game. I hope you enjoy yourself.

yeah.... would the language barrier that much of a difficulty??? it is kinda the only thing keeping me out of all those Vietnamese pool halls around town....

In my area, I have played in several rooms where other languages other than English are mostly spoken. All of them have players that also speak English (the ones I have played at in my area predominantly speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean). They all welcome players from outside their own ethnic community. I have never found there to be a non-English language problem in any of these rooms. I have also found many players graciously willing to show new players the ropes.

Of course you will have to check things out for yourself. But I have a strong feeling that you will find the same good situation in Huston.

Great...I was given a brand new box of Aramith Tournament Champ Carom balls that have never been used............now i have a place to use them!

I'm jealous.

One more things. Since you are starting with those great Aramith balls, try to figure out which of the rooms in your area has the best, and best maintained, tables. You will enjoy the game much more if you play on top quality tables that are well kept. There is a good chance that room will also have the best players.

Yeah.....I get that alot...I have like tons of ballsets for other games "just in case"..........like russian pyramid....

.... I thought about just using my backup playing cue... is there something different with construction regarding purpose built carom cues?

You should play with MNorwood. He plays carom every once in awhile and has vietnamese in-laws. Double wammy right there!

....yeah.. I think i'll have a go by myself to lessen the risk of embarassing myself at my lack of skill.........

Don't go to the Vietnamese places without someone who is a regular. This might be you:bash: The University of Houston UC center has a carom table and a snooker table. I can put you in touch with a guy that plays all the time there. I am going to build some carom plugs for my home table soon and plan on playing more carom.

Unexpected question from one with so many billiard-related items...

MAin diff w/ carom cue is the taper. Unlike most pool cues, the shaft has a conical taper- meaning it gets fatter as you go back from the tip. Because the balls are heavier, the taper needs to yeild a hit which provides signifcantly more resistance to deflection.
