Moderators, feel free to move this to NPR, but I thought a lot more people might save themself some aggravation if I posted in main.

If you don't like telemarketing calls, you'll want to do this. I personally just did this for my cell and land lines.

Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month. All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

To prevent this, call the following number 888-382-1222

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take 30 seconds of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked.

You cannot call from a different phone number. You can also use this for land lines.

hehe... let me guess, you got that from a email forwarded to somone's entire address book, right?

This hoax has been around for years.

Here is another site straight from the FTC

Here is a good rule of thumb to go by, if you ever get a email that has FWD: in the subject line, delete

If you ever get a email that has you along with 50 + other people , delete

If you ever get a email that asks you to foward it on to ANYONE, delete it

You life is good then:grin:

good info from the #2 on the rep list  I like to ask the telemarketer to hold on for a minute and see how long the will wait. :rotflmao1: Come back in a few minutes and see if they're still there. Then hang up.

Also if you use facebook you need to update privacy settings if you don't want all your info to be available on google.

Go to privacy settings, then search and remove the check box under index search.

Thanks CaliRed for the info, and politely pointing out my naivete. Sometimes I do stupid things. :o

The # provided is the correct # for the Do Not Call Registry and on Snopes it says "calling for cell #'s provides only a small additional measure of protection since existing FCC regulations already in place block the bulk of telemarketing calls to cell phones."

KK9 <-- is next going to send a virus to my "friend" that emailed me this...

While we're on the subject, be aware that there a number of organizations that are exempt from the Do Not Call List. Examples include Market Research organizations (anyone who is calling to do a survey which doesn't involved soliciting products or services) and Newspapers calling for subscriptions.

A few years ago I put my number on the do not call list. I did again last week and included my cell number on their website. Just google-- Do not call list.

I received my first telemarketing call today on my cell. And it was for an oil change.........hmmmmmmmmmmm....

They can call me all they want! Provided they have a pool table at home that needs worked on in the VERY near future! AND are in my continent at least! lol:wink:
