When meeting someone I used to act like I was doing some serious double knuckle gold mining then stick the hand out for a shake and keep it out. The looks on some people's faces was priceless but most eventually shook hands. Custom and courtesy are hard to ignore!

Yeah, my college Biology professor for one and it's not even necessarily that all germs aren't bad. Your skin and especially your hands and fingers emit oils that protect your pores from allowing bacteria in. Washing too often washes away those protective oils.
