I have to say I don't like the way Darren went about it, but there is no real reason to be using master chalk in 2026 pro play. I know this forum leans towards an older crowd who love master, but there is no doubt that it makes the balls and tables much much dirtier than modern chalks like V10 / pagulayan/ ghost / titlist. If you play against someone who uses master chalk with this much on the line, you would be tempted to ask the ref to clean the cue ball every time you came to the table, because even if there is a 1% chance of a skid, you wouldn't want to take the risk.
I honestly think chalks should be regulated in the near future, because if someone rocks up to a big tournament using predator 1080, they're gonna be spraying blue dust all over the table and the balls and causing skids and weird rolls which are just unacceptable at this level of play.

sure, but all 256 players need to have TAOM then. can't blame mickey. darren was out of line
With 4 inch pockets there is little room for error.
Ronnie Sullivan still uses Triangle..
In pro snooker (and Chinese pool) there is a ref available to clean the CB, in pool with shot clock in play, asking to clean the CB is on your clock.

Sounds like Appleton is a being a little bitch...wait until he realizes how many people and billiards rooms only use masters..what a clown. Mad that he lost and is looking for an excuse. I hope all his opponents in the future only use Masters...Live rent free in his head..sore loser.

Always has been. Just getting more noticeable as he gets older & less relevant.
I'd prefer that no one uses messy chalk like Masters, especially on my table, but that may be impractical in a tournament.

Masters doesn't make the table dirtier. I play alone three times as much as with others on my table. My table looks great until my friends with the expensive chalks come over. The table is filthy after a session. I don't mind, but I joked about it to one of my friends and now he brings masters to my place, I wish he wouldn't and feel bad about the joke, but that is the type of guy he is.
Over chalking is what's makes tables dirty. Chalking every shot is absolutely unnecessary.

This topic reminds me I need to make a more conscious effort of using pyro instead of v10 when I'm at my local rooms (I carry both.) None of the places I play at seem to care that much (and I know I'm not leaving powdered broccoli stains about) but I always try to be respectful to places I patronize.
I can completely understand a room/table owner dictating the chalk to be used, especially the color thereof. An opponent should have zero say in what chalk is used. In addition to saving money, it sounds like Masters is a superior choice for getting inside an opponent's head, which will offer a far greater advantage than a using more expensive chalk ever will.
