Chalk on Ferrule? - Solution!

As mentioned, one of the reasons I like ivory ferrules is that they stay nice and clean.

After trying a few ideas to clean chalk dust off my ferrule and cue shaft, I hit on something that works, and is cheap and readily available.
I tried bleach, ammonia, lighter fluid, and dish soap, with limited success.
Today I tried a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, and it worked beautifully!
I wet the ME pad, wipe it over the whole ferrule, then the water "soak in" for about ten seconds or so. Then Wipe with elbow grease aroung the ferrule, and in less than a minute, it will be nice and white. Dry the ferrule off.
Works well to clean the shaft as well.
Chalk tip,not ferrule !!!

I just use a microfiber cloth with a drop of aramith ball cleaner on it. Seems to work well enough for me.

You can try a lot of things to remove those blue marks - but absolutely nothing works better than getting into the habit of chalking your tip correctly. In the long run, that will save you a lot of time, trouble, and headaches.

This seems prudent

this! Any kind of toothpaste will work exceptionally well to get any olor chalk off of your ferrule. I would recommend you tape off the shaft where it meets the ferrule. That way you don't get any toothpaste on the shaft, as it is an abrasive. Cheap, and an easy fix.

Personally, when I've cleaned resin ferrules, I've used a toothbrush & whitening toothpaste.

Yes, I would hate for my thread to be lost amongst the 8,000 threads about who makes the best cue, who makes the best table, what cloth should I recover with, what chalk is the cleanest, and Shane van Boening.

Try Fast Orange hand cleaner. You can clean the entire shaft and ferrule at once if ya want.

Been using ME for years on filthy, chalked up ferrules. I just slightly dampen with water and wipe of with paper towel. Generally come out looking nice and clean but dull. Then polish up with Novus for the shine.

Edit 11/17: I am not referring to my personal cues. Non driller here.

-Kat,

What is NOVUS?

I don't always get chalk on my ferrule, but when I do, I only use Magic Eraser ;)

Another example of why a Beginner Section would be a great addition. That way the more experienced players have the choice of entering and whether to respond.

Eliminates chastising a newer player for asking a question that we ourselves wondered about early on in our own quest for knowledge.

I agree with Bob's statement 100%, and, let me say that I have been as guilty as the next guy about chassizeing......castizeing......harrastizeing.......getting on a new guy's ass about something.
Live and let die, I say.
I cast my vote for a new Beginners Section.

I'm not going for a beginner's section.
People that have no patience for neophytes do not have to respond.

Some people at pool halls jeer at beginners....
...some remember what it was like...and will help...preferably when asked.

...that's what I like about leagues...new players feel more welcome.

I have used a lathe for so long to clean ferrules and shafts that I have lost touch with what works by hand. But back in the 80s a lot of people were using Pearl Drops toothpaste/polish and a paper towel or tooth brush to clean ferrules by hand. I don't even know if they still make the stuff.

that's funny. and true.
things have to be rehashed over and over because pool just aint that complicated.
you forgot the 12000 aiming threads.
