There's another thread about ball temp. that on second glance has my 'nerd gear' going. Am curious if i take my chalk outside with me and get it really cold will my game suffer before it can warm up? Will i see less spin, higher deflection, just more overall pool trauma??? Maybe i should take a page out Dr.Dave's playbook and freeze a bunch of chalk and compare them in action. This is serious cutting-edge science people so don't laugh, would normally wait to post on 4-1 but this topic is of such magnitude i chose to post it on Super Sunday, that's how big this could really be. Testing results to follow so don't touch that dial as they used to say. ;) GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe lay off the recreational. It's a bit stronger than the old stuff.

You know how glasses can fog up when someone comes in out of the cold, or going from AC to outside on a hot day? Well I'm sure chalk does the same. Hustlers used to wet the chalk with a finger dipped in beer.

My concern is that it seems as if your brain may have frozen. :):)

My guess is that freezing chalk will cause it to absorb moisture from the air and become damp.

Damp chalk plays terrible.

Although you can heat it in a microwave oven for 30 seconds to make it degas the absorbed water--just don't touch it until it cools back down (more than 5 minutes).

A buddy of mine, maybe he'll post, used to ask the houseman to put Master's chalk in the microwave before playing. True story.

There is truth to this and I witnessed it myself. I play with those new fancy pants chalks. The round Taom/Pyro. I forget since I just buy whatever my pool hall has in the display.

On hot days the chalk will cake up and on cold days they feel like chalk on a chalk board. I use more in cold seasons and less during the summer.

If you have layered tips that haven't been scuffed in awhile then application of the chalk is much more frequent.

no clue here. place i play actually has this amazing gadget called a 'THERMOSTAT'. MAY have heard of it, keeps the room temp. constant. ;) Seriously i've never seen room conditions so iffy that the chalk changes.
