Chalk temp...????????

Somebody told me CF can become brittle and possibly develop small cracks if exposed to cold temps. Some shrinkage may occur as well. Anybody else know if that holds water??
I would have a hard time believing this since caron fiber is used in the aircraft industry.

They get new bikes every race. Heck, they have a wall full of them.

Ask the guy that rides the same bike frame and you will get your answer.
If carbon fiber were fragile F1 cars would not use it for suspension components on cars going 220mph. The control arms, steering knuckles, shock push rods, the chassis, and oh yeah, the driver survival structure are all made from carbon fiber and used multiple races. Some components will get used the entire 24 race season if not damaged in a crash.

Edit for grammar.

I'm not saying its fragile. I am just pointing out that it can be and it isn't some new superman material.

Carbon fiber has been mass produced for ages now and is fairly new to the pool industry. It is considered a high end material so it is used for pool.

A PVC pipe can make a good shaft too. That's all I'm saying and I'm sure I can make one and sell it to you guys. "bUT BUIT bUT it's not carBon!"

Since I don't use a carbon shaft the fact that a PCV shaft isn't carbon would not affect my purchase decision. That said I doubt a PVC shaft would work very well, PVC is not very stiff.

Not all carbon fiber are the same. It's dependent on the strands per inch.
So you are saying that carbon fiber is only weak when not built properly, that makes sense and it is also true. Carbon fiber pieces must be built for strength in the direction that it will be stressed in. Some parts must have the weave direction rotated to stiffen it in multiple directions.

100%. Since we're on bikes, they make a perfect example (road bikes): They're designed to be incredibly stiff in their intended load direction (from the bottom bracket and bars to the wheels). They can tolerate the 1400+ watts top riders can put through them with very little flex. Hit the frame with even a small hammer though and it's guaranteed to break because it's not designed for direct impact.

This is also why they run the weave layers in several directions and I'm sure there are a hundred other variables engineers can tweak for their use-case.

Carbon fiber bike frames aren't that strong. The neck tends to snap and riders have stories about eating asphalt while doing their bombs down a road. Especially in the bike world, hot topic of debate is steel, aluminum and carbon fiber when it comes to bike frames.

As for pool cues, I like wooden shafts and I'm probably the last generation of wood users.

Carbon fiber works in my opinion and probably the best synthetic material out there to use for pool cues than a pvc pipe.
Your info is pretty damn inaccurate

Or at least 40yrs outdated

carbon fibre shafts are the best invention for pool. this way i can go in most pool rooms and quickly spot the worst players and those that have disposable money.
I don't like them personally and I'm not even sure they are better than a regular hard maple shaft. I know some people like them because they don't know much about woods.

My buddy has 40 year old blanks in his safe. Should I send them to my cuemaker?

Totally tongue-in-cheek thread and you get people goin all serious and technical. Fkng hilarious how these threads morph into lunacy. Goodtimes.
I enjoy your humor. However I just checked a piece of Toam with a meat thermometer
