Changing Joint pins and collars.

Is it possible to change joint pins say from a 5/16 to a 3/8 and maybe a stainless collar to ivory? If so how much would this normally run me?

Yes. Tho if you are talking about going from a piloted SS to flat-faced
Ivory you might lose as much as 1/2 inch length in the cue.

In theory, it could ge done without the need for a refinish,
but I wouldn't want to try.

A typical charge for changeing a joint collar is $50 or so, some
may be willing to include swapping the pin for that ammount,
but the Ivory joint will likely run $100 to $200, or even more, depending.

Also, the shaft will have to be re-bored and tapped - at least.

All in all, it could run from less than $100, to more than $500 - IMHO

This can be done without losing any length in the cue at all. Price obviously depends on the cuemaker, there's probably a lot of guys who'd want no part of it, and an equal amount of people who'd want no part of buying it after the joint's been worked on.

Hello Wes, I agree with others posters here that the Job could be very cheap to very expensive. Normally to change a pin, I charge $35, and I also normally charge around $45 to replace a joint collar.

As another poster already has said to stop the cue from being shorter due to the removal of the SS - Joint which uses a shorter Tenon, you would have to have a solid Ivory joint installed. Or you could also have the forearm drilled, a new longer tenon installed and a cored Ivory joint could be used this would cost about $140.

Due to the work involved a solid Ivory joint would be easyer to install. I charge $100 for a solid Ivory joint. Then if the SS-Joint is piloted your shaft will also need the old brass insert removed, cored with a peice of maple, and retapped for 3/8-10 or you will need new shafts built. To change the thraed type of the shaft I would charge $25, if I made new shafts using the existing collars, I would charge $115, if I had to make new collars for the shafts you could add from $10 to $50.

So for me the job would be a minimum of around $160 to Max depending upon the number of shafts or if new shafts are needed around $450.

Solid phenolic will work just fine for the collor and is much less expensive than ivory. Changing the pin is easy enough.
