Changing my leather wrap. Need help

Is it a simple process to change the wrap on my cue? My wrap is leather right now and I just want to switch it out to different color. Any help would be appreciated.
 
What kind of leather?

This question would probably be best answered in the cuemaker forum, but what kind of leather is the wrap? full leather or stack leather? I would have the cuemaker change the leather to the one that you want? What type of cue?
 
Yes. Not a hard change at all for someone that does leather wraps that is. Beware tho not everyone does them good so if you can get a sample of the persons work that would be best. I've seen a few hack jobs in my time. Check for any lip on top and bottom and look for the seam. Should be invisible or close to it
 
Thanks for the input. It's a plain cocobolo cue with a full brown leather wrap made by Woodworth. I wanted to just change it to a black leather wrap, but I can't go without it for 10 minutes.
 
Check with Smithlin cues there in Vegas. When he did a linen wrap for me, I noticed he did stacked leather wraps. Maybe he does regular leather as well.

Jim Lee of JDCustoms did two of mine. Very reasonable price, quick turn-around, and very easy to work with. Both wraps were excellent with very difficult to find seams.
 
You might consider playing with a stacked leather wrap before making the move.
 
Im sure there will be a vendor at the BCA nationals here in Vegas next month that can provide this service.

If you do not have the right jigs and special tools I'd definately recommend you take it to someone who does. Leather wraps aren't difficult when you're set up to do them, but if you're not I guarantee you'll be sorry you messed with it!
 
Cue maker here Today at Riviera

I went down to the apa national singles last night to check on some of my friends from around the country. I noticed that there is a cue maker there that will put a leather wrap on your cue for you while you wait. His name is Joe Blackburn. I am going down there again tonight to watch some matches, I find out how much $$$ to take of old leather and put new leather. Please call me so I can give you the details as I'll be at the Riviera all weekend watching friends. Just thought I'd let you know this guy is available and you get your cue back in a couple of hours, as you didn't want to be without it. Thanks, Gordon- check your pm's

Definitely get it professionally done. You want someone who's going to take their time and do it right. The wrap channel needs to be just right so the leather butts perfectly flush to both the edges of the channel and flat to the surface of the cue.

The cost should be somewhere around $100 for a new wrap.

My plain cocobolo cue came with a black leather wrap and the cue had no pop to it, just dead looking. I had it changed to a brown with specks linen and now it has pop. Be careful.

leather prices

I went back down to the Riviera tonight to watch some matches, and talked to Blackburn cue. He had about 10-15 different colors and kinds, pigskin, exotics, lizard, snake?, and they said to take off old leather and replace with new $125.00 and about a couple of hours or three with all of the players interrupting for shaft cleaning and tips. Hope this helps, he's there all day fri & sat and then back again for the other leagues til about the middle of may. Good luck, post back if you have success

Any reputable cue maker will be able to make that change for you. Just ask how many leather wraps the person has done Before you hand over your precious cue.

There are a lot of very experienced and very reputable folk in Las Vegas this week for the BCA nationals.
