This brought back to me memories of Charles Watson
In those days back at North Texas State in Denton Texas
charlie was a young clean cut Ivy League kap sig
Like most Frat boys Charlie was a fun loving kid always out for fun,
one time he met with a bunch of his friends in a bar with a pool table
one thing led to another and I had pocketed several hundred dollars
only to be invited to the frat room poker game
i was a player and they were kids, several thousand dollars later we were friends
I had a salesmanship class with Chalie uder Professor Bates when one day I was awakened when
my friend Frazier Brignon woke me from my nap with movement of a raised hand
I knew Frazier so I quickly figured he was volunteering to go home early or run out for pizza, but no.
Bates ,wanting to demonstrate that salesmen are not born salesmen but become
salesmen by learning the principles in a book and applying them in real life
so Bates ask the question"Are there any born salesmen in the room?"
Frazier, wanting to brag or show off raised his hand to display his brains, and there I was with mine in the air as well
So the teacher ask Frazier,so you are a born salesman, what do you sell?
Frazier helped his dad at their auto parts store so he waxed eloquent on
how he sold mufflers and oil etc
Bates thanked him but said he didn't consider this professional sales, more like
order taking
So there I was, barely awake and facing the music
Bates,in a condescending voice says to me, ,"nice to have you awake Campbell
Would you share with the class what kind of sales man you are,I am sure
everyone will be thrilled to have your addition "
Before I knew it I explained that I sold Hope to a disillusioned world seeking
the good life.
The class began to giggle and squirm and Bates cracked a smile, just knowing the fun was about to begin.
Fun for him not me. He knew he had me and would soon make his own point after
humiliating the Ferris Buehler of the class. The students actually loved seeing
me squirm, everyone was happy to not be taking notes.
Well he says if you expect to get credit for this class you will be prepared to take the entire class
next Wednesday to explain yourself, this will be your only test and only grade
Now before you think there is no pool playing involved here, and want to refer me to the non pool related section
Before the wrong forum detectives step in to refer me to else where. Give me
a chance and this introduction to a bit of history with Charles Manson,
a huge pool score and an equally big poker game
Lets see if AZ forum members are up for another of my stories
If the story has any potential interest and i get 10 request ,I will tell you guys a story
Bye for now
