ummm where would the signifigance be in using 314 be? its called the 347 because charlies max break speed is 34.7 so naming it the x314 would have no reference to charlie.

Well, 347 is chosen because it represents Charlie's top break speed. 34.7mph has to be the highest (or at least one of the highest) break speed in the world.

It is worth mentioning that it was done with a bigger cue ball.

The X347 will be modelled exactly after Charlie's own break cue.

We would not be using 314 even if it was not taken, this number is meaningless to us.

Unknown, I am truly sorry that you did not win. Thank you so much for your participation. Really enjoy your input. Thank you.

Richard

Question ...

I never heard about the 34.7 mph break until Richard just posted this at the end of this thread, so how could someone have it in their entry, unless it was submitted after the cutoff date?

And what are you going to do when Predator comes out with the Predator 350 Break stick? Be 2nd best then? Having a break speed tied to the name might not work out how you think it will.

Sorry. Like I said, it works fine. Every one will know how the name came about.

Scott,

Thank you for your concern. If Predator wants to copy our idea and name their cue 350 or whatever, it still will not change the fact that the X Breaker is the best breaking cue in the market place.

By the way, to achieve a break speed over 33 mph is really difficult. I have never heard of anyone with a break speed higher than 34.7mph in the world.

Perhaps Charlie will top his own record with his new X347?:)

In my opinion, Charlie has the strongest break in the world with control. He did not just achieve a 34.7mph break, he did that with perfect control on the cue ball.

I am very pleased to see Charlie chooses to break with his X347 exclusively.

Lisa, please do not get discouraged. A little heads up: Charlie told me he would made a special announcement regarding you because he really likes your participation and he loves those moonshine reference!:) He will likely get on line tomorrow to make that announcement.
Richard

Okay, I just got in from a Money Shoot tonight. I have to admit that I am a bit intrigued by this statement. Of course I am some what bummed that one of my submissions wasn't quite 'up to snuff', so to speak. However, I believe the contest to be fair, and am happy that the best submissions did win. Heck, it was grand fun, irregardless. Made me exercise my brain!!!!:D

Richard, should I look for this announcement here, in this thread, or should I check under Charlie's forum proper, for this announcement? I haven't a clue what to expect, but am glad Charlie was at least please with some of my submissions....especially if I could provide a chuckle or a smile. :D :D If he prefers to PM me, then that's cool too.

Thanks again for the experience! And I wish you and Charlie, and your partners the best of luck in this new endeavor......I think you have a real winner on your hands, all the way around!!! And Richard, I just want to thank you for the opportunity, and the contest. I feel it was an extremely generous thing y'all did, with the free X-Breaker and all.

I think X347 is about the least creative name that could have been chosen. I gaurantee people are not going to think of a Benz X-Class when they hear it. First Mercedes is not even producing an X-class yet and I know I always think of cars when I am looking at pool cues.

It sounds just like everything else out there (Predator 314). Also I don't think anyone would ever think "ohh..... 347 must mean 34.7 MPH", there is just no way to make a connection without knowing what the number already means.

I have not agreed with Richard in the past but I really thought the idea of a contest to come up with a creative name for his new product was a great idea. It certainly is an effective marketing tool but I think he really fell short in the decision to go with a number after X. It was the least risky concept for a name and does nothing to seperate the product from the crowd. What happens when Charlie breaks at 34.8 MPH?

Great contest and a lot of great ideas but I have to say the results are a very big let down.

Lisa,
You have made this contest a lot of fun. Without your participation it would not have been the same.:) :)
You have been a great sport, you even helped others with their logo and that is just awesome!.
Actually, your names are all very creative and original. We had to make the painful decision of not using the names you submitted. I really wish we could have used them.
Nevertheless, Charlie really loves your participation, the logo you chose, the names you came up with, and so on.
He does not have regular access to the Internet but he said he would try to log in tomorrow.
If he does not have the time, I will make the announcement tomorrow for him. It will be posted here.
Once again, thank you so much for joining the contest.:) :)
Richard
