Cheating a coin chute? Is this possible?

I have known it to happen in a somewhat worn mechanism when tables were only 25 cents.
You would put in the first quarter and drop the balls. Then bring the coin insert back about half way and stuff a piece of folded matchbook cover between the coin slider and the part underneath it to hold it in that place. Next time just push it in to drop the balls and stuff the matchbook cover under it again.
Sooner or later the tavern owner will wonder why it is seemingly not being used and keep an eye on the table and who uses it. Expect to be 86'd if you abuse it too much!!

Backtracking I just saw this post;

Does anyone remember when guys placed a quarter in the bar table slot and when they pushed in the slot with the quarter they would wedge a thin shim under the coin sot to keep it open for play at no cost- saw it all the time until they changed the mechanism where the balls only came out upon release of the mechanism back to its starting point.

I carry 3 ferrous Aramiths and practice billiards. Some tables are set up so you need to put the first buck in to get the cue ball but that done, you're home free. Expect to eventually honored with very flattering custom house rules.

That's why ferrous. And avoiding the pockets - especially the sides, takes me into ball awareness that I probably wouldn't bother with on a carom table. Conversely, shots come up that repeatedly make something; very educational when that happens.
Nuther chute cheater: rattle every shot. Innings are maintained only if a ball contacts both tits and doesn't go.

The kids used to put socks in the pockets on my bar tables in my first room in Bakersfield. It wasn't high tech but it worked until I caught them. I couldn't be too mad. After all it was a quarter a game.

Ooh, that's just wrong. Nuther hack on some tables is if the balls are inside the table, any extra balls will bounce off the last ball and out the cue ball chute. Not bad if you don't want to spend 20 bucks practicing 9 ball.

robbing a bank gets you a few years in jail. robbing a coin machine gets you probation or just a talking to.
and the coin machine thing if not too greedy can go on forever without getting caught and amount to a substantial amount of money over time.

I'm pretty sure cheating a depository was a Federal Offense at one time , meaning you didn't do a year in the county jail , you went to a Federal penitentiary , which is like day and night.
