Sup yall,

I just got back from a 4 day vacation in Chicago and I cant say enough good things about that city and its people. Beautiful city and such friendly people. The food was amazing too!

I ended up going to Chris's Billiards to shoot a few games and it was a great experience.

Anyways if anyone here is thinking about going to Chicago. shoot me a PM and I'll give you some restaurant recommendations and other stuff to do and see.

Next time you go there, get some Al's Pizza. Man that's some good ass pizza! Its not chicago style, its kinda thin, but its damn good! Best part is, they will deliver the food right to your table! Lol! You won't have to leave Chris's at all, lol.

I'm glad to hear you had a great time in my city!
Chris's is the first pool hall I ever shot pool in, over 25 years ago.
Many more tables now and a bit run down but still has that old school vibe.

I agree about the restaurants, one of the best food cities in the country!
For a big city we do have friendly people.
I like hearing positive reviews of Chicago, and if you or anyone else plans on visiting I would be more than happy to give recommendations.

Cheers

For a big city rich in billiards history Chicago is lacking in big-time pool tournaments or a regional tour.

There is the Windy City Open but the dates are close to, or overlap, the Derby.

I'm pretty sure the windy city open has been defunct for a few years now. Many pool rooms are dieing, dead, or in various forms of decay in the chicagoland area. Lots of bars with barbox's, but vary few real pool rooms.

I'm not sure that's true. Chicago has always been a city of neighborhoods and not the kind of town that people travel miles and miles to do things like play pool. Obviously there are the well known places like Chris's, Red Shoes, and the IBC, but aren't there many others that are more local hangouts that just don't get the "national" internet exposure?

I sure wish Bensinger's was still around though. :(

There are definitely more rooms in the city than there are in the burbs. When I was living in the city a few years ago I used to frequent G cue, Chris's & The Chicago City Pool Hall. All nice places, especially G cue (they had beautiful Gabriel tables). As far as rooms in all the various neighborhoods, not really. More like bars with a few box's, sometimes a 9 footer here & there.

I didn't mean to sound bitter, but the suburbs of Chicago are a very real representation of the decline in pools popularity. Of the rooms I used to and still do frequent, one removed 3/4 of its tables to put in a stage for live music, and the other two are out of business. The only real pool room that wasn't a bar/restaurant of those three, The Green Room in Aurora, went out years ago. That was a sad day...they had a great snooker table & lots of action.

These days the barbox is king in my area. I have to drive about 40min in any direction to find a 9 footer and unless its a league night, I'll probably be the only one on it.

As you can imagine, my barbox game has steadily improved.
