China Open Reporting

They are not coming. They didnt come when the tour had 8-12 events, they aren't coming for 4 or 5. Just not practical.
The top Taiwan women players are college students such as Tsai,Chou, Lin etc.
The real problem is not the number of events but the payout.
The cost of attending China open including plane fare, food, lodging,
is about 1000 US dollars. The payout for 9-16 is 2000 and WPA points.
The cost of attending one WPBA event approximates from 2000 to 3000.
The payout for finishing 9-16 cannot cover the cost.
Of course, everyone loves pool and wants to be a champion.
To be practical, they are just college students.
Without sponsorship, this wouldn't happen, except some prestigious events such as US open.

China Open entry fee?

Does anyone know if there was an entry fee for the China Open? If so, how much for men and women. If not, what was the criteria for playing???

I think they were probably invitational. Just would like some confirmation.

The list of man players is shown in the following link

On the left side, just push the name of organizations and the names of players will be shown.

In Asia, usually the tournament will give different slots to different organizations such as EPBF, APBU, BCA etc. Of course, there will be open slots.

Before the start of the tournament, there will be qualifier rounds and players whose ranking are not good enough to represent one's organization will fight for the open slots.
The brutal qualifier round schedule can be seen here
for man http://ycool.net/china_open/2009/man_q.xls
for woman http://ycool.net/china_open/2009/woman_q.xls

The qualifier rounds last for three days and the entry fee for qualifier rounds is US150.

For example, woman champ Tsai Pei-Chen entered the tournament through the brutal qualifier round because APBU has 8 slots for woman players and her ranking in APBU is not at the top 8.

The following link is the asia woman player ranking

So the tournament is not invitational also not truely open. But if you are a great player, you
can always go through the brutal single-elimination qualifier round and win it all like Tsai Pei-chen.
