Choosing an avatar

I'm sure this thread will fall into obscurity within hours, but hopefully a few people will read it first.

On the topic of choosing an avatar for this forum, here's what I've been thinking about.

There has been a lot of discussion lately about having provocative images as avatars. I'm not going to address the moral issues that arise for some. That's been discussed ad nauseum and is going nowhere.

Everyone is sexual in one way or another. We are all attracted to something (the opposite sex, the same sex, farm animals... whatever). Some men are turned on by porn-esque pictures, some are not. Some women are offended by said pictures, some are not. The bottom line, however, is that we are all in some way sexually aroused.

(So who cares?) My point is this. Why do we have avatars in the first place? They are there to allow us to INDIVIDUALIZE our anonymous little place on this website. To allow us expression. In my opinion, what are you really expressing by putting up a picture of a 1/2 naked woman? Congrats, you're like 99.9% of every guy in existence. But what does that really tell us about you? In my opinion, it tells me something about you that you probably don't want to project. A lack of individuality, a lack of expression.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. What do you want your words to say?

Tell me something good!

This is so well put, I really cannot add anything to what you have to say. I agree. Avatars are such an awesome opportunity for self-expression and many here simply don't take advantage of it. One poster I'm friends with here has a jump cue as his avatar. If you're at all familiar with him, you'd know how much he hates jump cues which makes his avatar incredibly amusing.

I'll admit, mine is a bit boring. Hell, I can't even remember what I was doing in the shot but it's photo of me nonetheless. Now, if even 10% of the adult-avatars were pics of the actual poster, I would be all for them!

Yours tells me you like to look at yourself in the mirror while doing your asanas and that you've most likely misspelled Sanskrit some time in the not too distant past...
Mine says, "Damn, I'm going to be hot when I grow up!"

(You know, global warming and all...)

If you've seen Superbad, you know the character. That is one cool little dude. I was the skinny, smart kid in high school. But, when it came to the ladies, I was smooth. No fear. I just love that movie.

IMO i think having even the most provocative avatar is much better than those people with like 2 animated gifs in their sig with like 6 lines of text. Ridiculous having to scroll through a page of sig to get to the next post.

I wanted to stay with being patriotic to the USA and when I seen this photo from space of the planet Earth with the Stars and Stripes positioned below, I knew it would work for me.

You hit the nail on the head James. We need to be more individualistic (is that a
word?) Vulgar displays of scantilly clad women are disgusting! Please PM
me with all of that filthy trash so we can keep this a wholesome forum.

I like the avitar. It sometimes tells something about the person behind the name.

As for your concern about sexually explicit avitars, I chose the sexiest most provocative image I could find...my Mottey

I guess I'm a bit of a sheeple. 99.9% of the folks posting here like pool. I use the butt of the first "last cue I'll ever buy" cue. I just wish the inlay in the tulip wood butt was turquoise. Would it ruin the cue to get that done? Is it possible to change an inlay in a finished cue like that?
