Chris Reinhold Completes Team USA

I thought i read somehwere that it was corey deuel who was selected for the final spot. was that a bs post or something?
 
I was surprised to learn of Billy’s situation on the Cue It Up podcast from Mike Panozzo. I must have missed the thread where it was discussed here.

Corey had posted a photo of him wearing his Mosconi Cup shirt, and people misunderstood it when he said he was excited to be wearing it again.
 
Chris is an excellent choice. Yes, there was also a strong case for Oscar Dominguez, Jeremy Sossei, and a couple of others.

Going young makes sense here. Team USA is likely headed for another loss at the Mosconi and building for the future with young guys who've shown some promise is logical.

Like Tyler, Chris has already played quite well in a Mosconi, probably having been the only member of the 2020 team that exceeded expectations. Chris was good enough to beat Tyler at the International 9-ball and fought the good fight in his match against Gorst with a chance to reach Stage 2.

I think the addition of Tyler and Chris to the team was very well advised, almost enough to make me forget the ridiculous choice that came a bit earlier in the process.

I don’t know if Earl has been out of stroke since he first picked up a cue lol. The concern is that as soon as something doesn’t go his way or bothers him, he finds reasons why he’s gonna lose instead of ways to win. Hopefully he keeps his focus on the table and helps the team.

Yes, that is what most folks with 6 world championships, 5 US Open wins, and dozens, and dozens of other tournament wins around the world do, is find ways to lose, LOL I think he plays better when he's pissed off. He was pizzed at a Johnny Archer match in Lincoln in 2013, was barking when watching JA run 80 something balls, but then missed and Early ran 100 himself right after, and then closed it out for the win next time at the table. Personally, I think it pumps him up and gets the juices flowing. Doesn't always work because you can't control you opponent running out out on you or getting some nice rolls either ;)

Look I love Earl. One of my favorite players to watch. His accomplishments are only done by someone that’s a true champion and a killer. No doubt. And the Earl you talk about, I hope that’s the Earl we get out there. The fiery guy that’ll shoot your liver out and hand it to you. But realistically we know it’s possible for him to turn into the Earl from the end of the Color of Money match or numerous other matches that he went into give up mode when things weren’t going good. I actually kinda think being back on the team with the guys will bring out the best in him. Knowing other people are depending on him to stay composed and perform. At least I hope it does.

Yeah, if he loses his cool, so be it. It's in the heat of competition. Many, many athletes do it every day and twice on Sunday. The difference is they are not treated like pariahs. Lets stop pretending as if pool is so much more refined than Tennis or baseball or football. John McEnroe lost his cool more than Earl, broke more raquets than anyone I know of, and yet, he sill gets endorsement deals decades after he played. Oh, that's right, he's rich and makes the products he endorsers richer. Pool players get crumbs but must act like nuns ? I don't get it.

But, you are right, if he keeps his cool and shoots someones liver out, that would be great. But, I'll be a fan no matter. Take the good with the bad ;)

It’s fitting that you mention McEnroe because he was also DQ’d from a tournament for acting like an ass-clown. And McEnroe was marketable after his playing career because he had calmed down.
 
I like Chris, I hope he does well. He once gave me a Mezz patch, I still have it on my case.
 
It’s hard to discuss USA’s Mosconi picks in a few words, but I believe Chris is a good pick. Chris is conducting himself like a professional. He has gained support and sponsors when others haven’t. When I look at the top 50 (Fargo) USA players, Chris and Oscar are the only two choices that made sense to me. And I knew I would feel badly for either of them, if they didn’t make it.

Wrong, he was a millionaire throughout his career, the highest ever for tennis at the time. He had sponsors out the arse, including a huge deal with Dunlop tennis racquets, and many more during his playing days. He was the biggest name in tennis, hands down. He was the "bad boy" of tennis.

And his fortunes continued after he retired with being a highly paid commentator as well as still doing endorsement deals. Oh, sure, he calmed down after he retired, nobody said he was maniac off the court, only when he competed. Sound familiar ?

And how did the tennis world treat McEnroe. His net worth is over $100M today. Yeah, I bet he feels horrible that he blew up on the court, won more championships than anyone else, and earned more money than every pool player that ever played, COMBINED.
