Cincinnati Area players (Ralph Black is alive an well)

Just an FYI, if anybody cares. I'm Ralph's oldest son Landon and thought I'd post his where 'bouts as I've seen him mentioned in a few old threads here. I've probably met some of you at one time or another as I used to go watch Dad play some here and there. Dad's doing fine right now and he did give up the game back in '07 after 5 bypass open heart surgery. They said he had just enough of a heart attack to save his life when they found the 5 blockages as the next one would've/could've been the BIG ONE. The stress of playing took it's toll some I think. He's doing just fine and still works out 3 days a week at a local Sr. Center. He wouldn't admit it, but I know he misses the game and the folks he's befriended over his MANY years involved with the game. It's been a HUGE part of his and our lives.

I just wanted to let his friend & folks know he's still alive kickin' @ 76!

i hope they have a pool table at the senior center
i can just imagine your daddy schooling the other seniors

a ralph moment .......
at snookers for the thursday 9 ball tourney
ralph wasnt playing, just watching that nite, i came in late.

standing next to ralph seated,
i noticed he was focused on the 3 cushion table, 4 asian kids playing
i asked ralph what he was watching so intently
he says "well brent , i'll tell ya, i been studying those boys for about 30 minutes,
i don't think they know what they're doing ....
a pause, smacks his lips like he always did........
i havent seen them MAKE a ball yet"

say hi to pops for me

Thanks for sharing that. I'll sure tell him "Brent" says hi. I just told him last night that Jerry (sp?) had passed. He was at a loss for words believe it or not. I remember Jerry and Frank from back in the day (Gerry's Palace) when I was real young. They helped Pops piece together my 1st bike.

I enjoyed playing your dad in the old Saturday and Wednesday tournaments at Beechmont Billiards. He was always willing to help a young kid out. I always thought it was funny how he would do that sorta chewing motion when he was down shooting. Glad to hear he is still running out.

He's a teeth grinder. Still does it to this day and it wasn't just a pool thing.

My Mother found this going through some stuff a couple weeks ago. I thought it was pretty cool & just thought I'd share.

We lost Pop last Sunday, 09/05/2021 @ 84, a year to the day we lost my sister (his only daughter @ 50). He had a couple different types of cancer that they managed well over the past couple years, but Dimentia took it's toll, in the end. He passed peacefully, in his sleep. We're really gonna miss him.

Just thought I'd update for his friends in the billiard world, here in Cincinnati. Thanks for being friends with Pop over the years. Dimentia or not, he still remembered all those days and the people he met. Even in his last months we would sit and listen to him tell stories about the old days.

Rest in Peace, Pop.
