C. J. is on the mark with remarks, and the movie THE STING Paul Newman & Robert Redfored is a classic con, hustle, and take the greedy guys money. Robert Shaw Character was looking to be the guy who beat the system betting on the pony’s, and make a killing. Had he not been greedy he would not have got stung.

I always laugh when people refer to Gambling on Pool, the question is are they Gambling, or trying to Hustle someone, to steal from them. Pretending to be an unskilled player, until the trap or hook the victim?

To me gambling is going to a Casino, the House is not afraid to put all their money on the Tables you could win on display. But every game from Slots, BlackJack, Poker, Roulette, Keno, or Baccarat, the house knows the odd. In the long run the house will always win, as they havre. more looser then winners.

They love posing photo of the guy or gal who won 50K on a Slot, they never post the photos of the thousand who lost $500.00 or more to the slots.

Everyone loves to hear how Hustles made money Hustling Pool n people, but no one want to be the person hustled.

Sort of a double standard is it not.

In life if somethings that seem too good to be true, best to believe they not, and don't be a victim of some slick talker, or conman.

Today with technology, email, and copy cat web sites, I am sure some or you also get emails proclaiming I won some price, gift card, or trip. I ignore, trash, as too many scams.

I couldn't begin to tell just how many players do this exact SAME thing when on the road. I'm not naming names but i know a couple HOF'rs that used this old road tactic a LOT. As one old sage roadie told me, "Bill, we're not in church". Everybody is scheming on everybody else in the poolhall. If you're betting on two guys that just came in the 'hall you're not gonna like the outcome.

People politics?

Sounds like C.J. admitting that he dumped his backers.
Not necessarily his backers but the railbirds. The rail used to be where all the money was. If the rail starts loading up on one player he's probably not going to win in the long run. I would never bet on the rail unless i knew one of the players well. People are greedy and it often costs them.

In the late 70's a couple of road players were in Tulsa for about a month. The better of the two would go out to the 'Strip', a long row of titty bars. He'd go in early, put on a show then a couple hrs later player B came in and they took the whole joint down. They went to a Denny's and whacked up the loot. The beer'd-up patrons had no clue what just happened, a seriously ballsy move in a Oklahoma strip joint.

We did something similar for years but it involved a lady friend as well. You get people invested real quick!!
No need to explain further.

I always learned something from every loss. Some pointed out glaring deficiencies, others minor screw ups, but always taught me something.

I knew this one road cat that had a 'girlfriend/accomplice' that was both a card counting BlkJk player AND a world-class short-change artist. That gal could GET THE DOUGH.
