Check it out, race to 75 for $1500 John Morra and Erik Hjorleifson at Shooters Billiards in Toronto.

I don't know either of these two personally, so I am in no way commenting on this match in particular, but....

Race to 75 for $1500 sounds like a barge full of dumping. I hadn't even heard of Erik Hjorleifson, but he has done good this year. A few years ago he got 9th at the U.S. Open and 9th at the Reno Open.

Just seems odd such a long race for $1500.

I knew Erik growing up and coming up through the Junior Nationals. The guy played amazing. There were a lot of people that though he would turn into being a top pro. His game isn't quite there yet, but I don't think it is far off yet either. He had a lot of great opportunities to play in big tournaments and has had impressive finishes.

He moved to Toronto a year or a few years back. He grew up in Ontario (I believe) and usually was on the road with Jason Klatt. I am guessing this is more of a solid practice session for the two of them but I could be wrong. That is good advertising for the pool hall that they are playing though.

I read the article and Erik dlfkjsddfjkson talks a lot of smack (which I don't mind). He said John will be lucky to get to 6 in thier race to 75.

edit: I am in no way affiliated with either of these two players. :)

I am sure there is something between the two players then. If you happen to know Erik, he is not that kind of person. I would have to say those comments are a marketing approach.

They are originally from Winnipeg.

race to 75 for 1500????

you sure it's not a race to 7 or something? that's like 20 a game all the way down isn't it?

it almost seems like a waste of time

unless it comes down to hill-hill....

how much would it be per game then?

I saw Erik get through a world class field during the qualifier for IPT the guy is world class. My money is on Erik.

Maybe it's a game of straight pool.

Clash for Cash Event

John and Erik have been going back and forth with wins around here so there has been much discussion over who is the better player.

When Erik came from Winnipeg he was simply dominating everything he entered in Ontario but lately it's John that has been the one to beat in Canada.

It's a small amount of money that has been put up by sponsors, but the race to 75 was the idea of the players. One player will get all the money and the bragging rights in the end.

This event once successful could have possibilities of a larger prize in the future.

I thank the AZ forum members for their predictions and comments.

I am excited to be a sponsor involved in the event!

Prejudice

I can't believe everyone bashing our neighbors to the north. There are two things I can't stand; prejudice and Dutch people.

That would be like $90 a game or something.

If it goes to the hill it would be 149 games; $1,500 divided by 149 games is $10.07/game. Of course, it's not the same since someone's definitely going to walk away with $1,500, but that's definitely a lot of work for not so much money. Maybe they're counting on a lot of side-action?
