Classiest Player

LOL people dressed so funny back then. And to think that about 20 or 30 years from now, people are gonna say that this generation dressed really funny.

About Steve Cook, I have a one pocket match where he plays a no-name guy. Steve gets some horrible bad rolls, and he doesn't complain at all. He keeps his composure. I was impressed with his demeanor.

here is another fancy outfit from the same tourney ...complete with 70's hair do

what about Torbjorn Blomdahl? I know he doesn't play professional pool, but he's a class act, for sure.

Hello,
Mr. Blomdahl certainly should count as he does play league pool in Holland along with many other great players from Europe (Alex lely, Niels Feijen, Tom Storm, Imran Majid etc etc). Those who want to know how well he plays (a question I've seen posted several times) can check out his stats as the season progresses at

www.proteamleague.nl

BTW my vote would probably go to Francisco Bustamante, Steve Davis or, someone who's never going to get a mention otherwise but deserves one, Lee Tucker from the UK. As examples I've seen him annihilate Allison Fisher and not gloat and get hammered by Francisco and not sulk- he took both in his stride. He's also very generous with his time and all of that is part of what "class" means to me. Seems like a very nice guy too.

In the sulky category I can't believe no-one's mentioned Mika Immonen yet. Brilliant player obviously but a really poor loser based on what I've seen.

Thanks,
Chris (Chrstc).

Living - Tony Robles - Great player and maybe even a greater person.

Dead - A whole bunch, Crane, Martin, Cranfield, Caras, and on and on.

Surely you don't mean Ray Martin. He played at IPT Reno in September, and still hits them well.

Here's a photo of Jay

Great Thread BTW!

You guys are right about Parica. I watched some Accu-stats from DCC and he isn't very sportsman like. I guess when I was watching him play I wasn't paying attention to what else he was doing. Then when I met him at dinner he was a gentleman. although come to think of it he did linger at the buffet when it was my turn at the crab legs:D
Didn't Jim Rempe charge a kid a 100 bucks for an autograph at DCC 2 years ago? Thought I read that somewhere, if not I apologize.

I'll vote for, no never mind it doesn't matter.

Andy

classiest player

well i ran pool tournements in the atlanta, athens and greenville s.c. area for 10-15 yr, and one of the classiest players i had was a senior player out of atlanta[ralph guest], a good player and super person as decest having watched him on t.v. Irvin crane. STICK:D :D

I've been around the game for 45 years and I'd have to say Paul Gurnsey out of Dallas as a class act at the table and just an all around nice guy.

OMG! Look at Earl's fingers, he's got gobs of tape all over them! That is just hilarious, I wonder what the purpose of all that tape is. It's almost as funny as that big hockey glove he wears sometimes.

What caught my eye is the guy sat in the background behind Earl. Is that George Lucas? Perhaps trying to cast his next Star Wars movie? Maybe he needs an Ewok & a new villain!

Good pic, also Louie Lemke and Gabby stood alone amongst his bretheren.

Depends how you define "class"?

I guess it all depends on the criteria used, and how you define class.;)

My $0.02

HAHAHAHAAH. Classic.

Seriously though, that crap on his hands are "finger extenders". Another Earl gimmick. I believe he and Parica got into an argument over the use of them in said picture.

Living: Allison Fisher
Deceased: Irving Crane

I specifically remember watching an episode of the IPT King of the Hill and seen Allison take a stomping from Francisco Bustamante. When the shook hands, Allison smiled and said it was a pleasure. That small gesture alone speaks volumes about the class she has.

I'd have to say that the classiest living player is a toss-up between so many of the European players, primarily the Germans.

Ralph Souquet is as classy as it gets. There s no doubt about that.

Thorsten Hohmann is a true gentleman as well. Hell!! I even watched Thorsten literally throw the towel in at the final table of a major tournament as a sign of respect for his opponent (I don't remember who off hand) running a beautiful rack and getting great shape on the 9.

And Thomas Engert always gets my vote for a true class-act. Great player and classy guy.
