Cleaning gold crown 3 corner pockets

Just curious if anyone has found an efficient way to clean the bronze aluminum around the pockets of a gold crown 3. I have one and the metal is almost a grey color.

I was going to try a polishing wheel or a car buffer but thought i would ask around first.

Plz post a picture.

Bronze and aluminum are two different colors...
I'm not sure what your asking....
You could have mixed up GC.

Your best best is to have the pot metal,monkey metal-zinc powder coated.

To clarify, i have a gold crown 3. When i say bronze aluminum i am referring to the document in this thread:

I assumed (maybe incorrectly) "bronze aluminum" in that meant bronze that had aluminum as the main metal added to copper to make it.

I once had my door guys ( jillians boston) try to polish them for a few hours before we gave up. Can't wait to find out where we went wrong.

Where is the tablesnake when we need him?

My guess is that the bronze color comes from some kind of coating over the alum,
and it has worn thru. At least that is what all the GC3s with tired castings look like to me.

I wouldn't use any chemical cleaner. Try usind Johnsons Paste wax or Butchers wax and sime 000 steel wool.
 
Thanks for the input guys. I tried for about 30 min with barkeepers friend and made some progress but it is slow going.
 
You can not resurrect the bronze finish look, it is a coating over the aluminium pocket casting and it wears off on ALL GC3 casting. But, you can have it powder coated in a penny vain finish that looks better than original.
 
When I bought my GC 3 my casting's and leg leveler's where in terrible condition. I wet sanded them down with some 320 grit sand paper to remove all the gouges and pitting and painted them with some of this stuff. It might not be the best option but def. the most cost effective (it took 2 cans at about $7 a can but I also did the leg levelers). It's been about 18 months since I did them and they have held up very well. Like I said there are better options out there such as refinishing and powder coating but for $14 I couldn't be happier with my results

Rustoleum spray paint will last a lifetime if you 1) properly clean and prep the surface, and 2) use 3 or 4 very THIN coats, allowing 24-hour drying time between coats.
 
I get the 6 pocket casting and 4 feet powder coated and finished with a clear coat for $60:D...that also includes sandblasting all parts first.
 
What do you guys think of anodizing the corner pieces to matte black?
I think it looks cool and I don't like shiny parts on a pool table....
....never liked the old Black Gold Crown....too many reflections.

RKC, ever try the matte approach?....too much upkeep?

That's exactly what I did.. Same paint and everything and it came out beautiful and lasted BUT the paint may chip off in places if you let your nieces and nephews play on it for 10 hours..:mad:

Powder coating is the most durable way to go, so I don't opt for anything else.
 
I powder coated my pockets, feet, and ball box a maple bronze color. I left the rail trim as it was in excellent shape and left as a nice accent. Check my profile for pics of my table.

After spending well over an hour on one corner pocket I am going to get a local quote on powder coating.

Thanks for the info on the fact the color is a coating on the aluminum - I was starting to see some metalic shine where i was working and was worndering why it was silver in color.

Side question - How difficult is it to get the pockets out? I have the ball return, not sure if that factors in. Anyone have a good resource with step by step instructions? I can find one online - just looking for the easiest to follow (unless it is a simple process).

Opinion question - The ball box took the barkeepers friend really well and is nicely shined now. Would you powder coat that to match or keep it original?

You have to take the rails off and disassemble ....it's pretty simple once you turn the top
upside down.

Just curious - what type of shop did you find to do it for this price? I just got quoted $200 - do you think I would be better off going to an auto body shop (that quote was from a powder coating specialty shop)?
