Cleaning pool balls.. Yeah.. old topic but...

Aren't the little spots collision marks.. from the balls hitting each other? Or, is this something else? My Ball Star an my old drill polisher took those spots off but it does take some work by hand.

So I just picked some up at a local store today, and I must say, it definitely gives the balls a good feel. Feel fresh and new. However, I tried to use it to clean my cue ball, and I just can't seem to get rid of the red/blue (red cause that's the color chalk I use now for my table...red felt) marks from when you hit the ball with the chalked tip.

Are those meant to come out? If so, is there any technique you use to do that? Is it easier to keep them clean with a ball cleaning machine? Do those cost a lot?

Ball cleaning machines cost upwards of $400... usually. There are instructions on how to build one if you do a search, and they can be built for under $100.

Some cue balls don't come clean. Some just get stained and stay that way. My red circle cleans up well as does the measles ball that I have. As I remember, the blue circle ball that came with the Centennials cleans up well. I know I had a cue ball that came with my first set of lower priced balls and it held the stain. Yours might be beyond help.

I guess you could try a Magic Eraser but they do make minute scratches that would have to be polished out so the time and labor factor would indicate to me that you need to get a new cue ball. The red circle seems to be the ball of choice for most of the folks around here. Mine has always come clean.... but I don't use red chalk.

That's where I go! :groucho: (bought a gallon and it's lasted quite a while, even gave away a quart of it to my friend and now he wants to buy the next gallon so I'll be sure to clean his Centennials in my Ball Star. In a spray bottle it only takes as few spritz's ... if that's a word, to do the job)

I just got my measles ball in the mail today. It seems to wipe off the chalk a lot better than the other aramith ball that I got. I will have to see how it holds up and how easy that is to clean. Thanks for the tips and info!

Are there any known local type stores that carry this stuff? Walmart, Target, etc...?
