cleaning your shaft

What do you guys use to clean your shaft? I've heard that 409 all pourpose cleaner on a rag works pretty well so I was wondering if you guys have an opinion on this method and any other practical ideas.
 
Lately I've been using Q-Clean - it's a powder you sprinkle on a wet bit of cloth (I use an old useless t-shirt). Works pretty well for me. A small bottle of the powder runs around $12, more or less, and lasts a long time.

Why clean it? The oils from your hand is one of the better things to help keep your shaft sealed. Use a leather burnisher on it occassionally.
 
clean it real good

:D the trick is to spend most of the time just on the shaft,then when you run out of hot water you are done.:D :)
 
Thanks guys, i've actually used that q clean before and it works real well, it takes a little while though (yeah, I'm lazy) so if I feel like just giving it a quick clean I usually use a damp cloth or little bit of 409.
 
000 Steel Wool (to clean) followed by burnishing with a leather slicker. I keep both in my case to use when done playing. 5 minutes of maintainence keeps the shaft clean and smooth.
 
I use Q-wiz, give it a little rub with the rougher side to get some dirt and excess chalk off (not to try to remove all bluing), then the smooth side to burnish.

if you must use steel wool use the 0000 this way your shaft will last longer, the reason i dont use steel wool is in a short period of time your shaft will be a pencil, when I first started playing i used steel wool and noticed after a few months my extra shaft was fatter than the one I played with. i would learn a different way of getting dings out of your shaft or better yet, try and not ding it, i only use my ferrel to move balls etc, thus i rarely get a ding, when it does happen i raise them out with water.
 
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is the method most often recommended. Just dampen it with alcohol (water if you must) and wipe the cue clean. YOu'll be absolutely amazed at how easily all the dirt comes off.

When you are done it will feel a little rough. Use a very fine abrasive paper (2000 grit) or the Cue Wiz to smooth it. Then you can use Slic Stik or just burnish with a leather burnisher.

My bad, meant 0000 (not 000, missed an 0).
Been using it since 1996 on both my McD's with no problem or thinning of the shafts.
